The following is a list of characters who were introduced to the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'' in 1996, in order of first appearance. Stephen Reid Stephen Reid (also Potter) is the son of Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls). Audrey's father insists that she give Stephen up for adoption after she givea birth to him at 16 years old. Jane Danson (born Jane Elizabeth Dawson, 8 November 1978) is an English actress. She is known for her portrayal of Leanne Battersby in the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', between 1997 and 2000, and from 2004 onwards. Leanne Battersby (also Tilsley and Barlow) is a fictional character from the Television in the United Kingdom, British ITV (TV network), ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Jane Danson. It was announced in February 1997 that a "family from hell" would be introduced to ''Coronation Street''. Sean Wilson (born 4 April 1965) is an English actor and cheesemaker, best known for his role as Martin Platt in ''Coronation Street'', which he played from 1985 to 2005 and for a brief stint in 2018. Career Wilson joined the cast of ''Coronation Street'' in 1985 as Martin Platt. The character was 16, had left school and taken a job at the cafe managed by Gail Tilsley. John Ernest Briggs (5 September 1935 – 28 February 2021) was an English actor. He was known for his role as Mike Baldwin in the soap opera ''Coronation Street'', in which he appeared from 1976 to 2006. Early life Briggs was born in Battersea, south-west London, on 5 September 1935. His father was a master carpenter. He was evacuated from London during the Blitz campaign of World War II.
