Amanda Barrie
Amanda Barrie (born Shirley Anne Broadbent; 14 September 1935) is an English actress. She appeared in two of the '' Carry On'' films before being cast as Alma Halliwell in the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', a role she played on and off for 20 years. Between 2003 and 2006, she played the role of Bev Tull in the ITV prison drama, '' Bad Girls''. Barrie has since enjoyed a varied stage and television career. Early life and education Barrie was born Shirley Anne Broadbent in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, to Hubert Broadbent and his wife Connie (''née'' Pyke). Barrie attended St Anne's College, Lytham St Annes, then trained at the Arts Educational Schools in London and later at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Ashton-under-Lyne is a market town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. The population was 48,604 at the 2021 census. ''Hickory House'' is a British television programme aimed at pre-school children. It was produced by Granada Television from 1973 to 1977 and broadcast on weekday lunchtimes. Each programme was usually hosted by a pair of presenters, most often including Alan Rothwell. The setting was a normal house, but in Hickory House household objects were brought to life through puppetry. Ronald Wycherley (17 April 1940 – 28 January 1983), better known by his stage name Billy Fury, was an English musician. An early star of rock and roll, he spent 332 weeks on the UK singles chart. His hit singles include " Wondrous Place", " Halfway to Paradise" and "Jealousy". Fury also maintained a film career, notably playing rock performers in '' Play It Cool'' in 1962 and ''That'll Be the Day'' in 1973. ''Carry On Cleo'' is a 1964 British historical comedy film, the tenth in the series of 31 ''Carry On'' films (1958–1992). Regulars Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Connor, Charles Hawtrey, and Jim Dale are present and Connor made his last appearance until his return in '' Carry On Up the Jungle'' six years later. Joan Sims returned to the series for the first time since ''Carry On Regardless'' three years earlier. ''Carry On Cabby'' is a 1963 British comedy film, the seventh in the series of thirty-one ''Carry On'' films (1958–1992). Released on 7 November 1963, it was the first to have a screenplay written by Talbot Rothwell (although the first screenplay "Tolly" submitted to Peter Rogers was developed as '' Carry On Jack'') from a story by Dick Hills and Sid Green (script writers for Morecambe and Wise).
