Palta Language
The extinct Palta language of the Ecuadorian Amazon is attested by only a few words: ''yumé'' 'water', ''xeme'' 'maize', ''capal'' 'fire', ''let'' 'wood' (Jiménez de la Espada, 1586), and some toponyms. Based on this, Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño (1936) classified it as a Jivaroan language. Kaufman (1994) states that there is "little resemblance", but Adelaar (2004) finds the connection reasonable. In addition to these four words are toponyms, which commonly end in ''-anga, -numa, -namá''. The latter two suggest the Jivaroan locative case suffix ''-num ~ -nam'', and Torero (1993) notes that the last resembles Aguaruna (Jivaroan) ''namák(a)'' 'river' as well. Palta is a locality in North Barrackpur Municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Paltapara, also Palta, is a census town in Barrackpore I CD Block of Barrackpore subdivision in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of Kolkata Urban Agglomeration. Geography Location Garshyamnagar, Noapara, Kaugachhi and Paltapara form an urban cluster east of Garulia and North Barrackpur. Mari Palta
Mari Soekõrv Palta is a Swedish-Estonian biostatistician, known for her research on model specification in longitudinal studies, especially in epidemiologic studies of diabetes, sequelae of prematurity and sleep. She is a professor emerita in the Department of Population Health Sciences and the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She served as vice-chair of Population Health Sciences, and director of graduate studies 2016-2018. She is the author of ''Quantitative Methods in Population Health: Extensions of Ordinary Regression'' (Wiley, 2003). Palta's parents fled Estonia at the time of the Soviet occupation in September 1944 and both worked as physicians, first in Estonia and then in Sweden. Palta was born and grew up mostly in the southern province of Småland, Sweden. She studied mathematics, physics, and English at Lund University.
