Pacific Football League
The North Pacific Football League is the collaboration name for two separate but related minor American football leagues - the Pacific Football League and Northern California League - that operated in the Pacific Northwest region, between 1963 and 1966. Frank Leahy
Francis William Leahy (August 27, 1908 – June 21, 1973) was an American college football player and coach, college athletics administrator, and professional sports executive. He served as the head football coach at Boston College from 1939 to 1940 and at the University of Notre Dame from 1941 to 1943 and again from 1946 to 1953, compiling a career college football record of 107–13–9. His winning percentage of .864 is the second best in NCAA Division I football history, trailing only that of fellow Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Knute Rockne, for whom Leahy played from 1928 to 1930. Portland Thunderbirds
The Portland Thunderbirds, formerly the Portland Pioneers, were a semi-professional American football team based in Portland, Oregon from 1961 to 1966. They played at Multnomah Stadium (now known as Providence Park). History An amateur football team known as the "Pioneers" played in 1961, but not in an organized league. In 1962 the North Pacific Amateur Football League was formed, which barred players with professional football experience. The Portland team renamed themselves the "Thunderbirds". Victoria Steelers
The Spokane Shockers were a professional American football team based in Spokane, Washington. The team was founded in 1967 as the Victoria Steelers of the Continental Football League but transferred to Spokane during the 1967–68 offseason. While in Spokane the team played its home games in Joe Albi Stadium. The Shockers had a farm team arrangement with the American Football League's Oakland Raiders, and their most notable player during their brief existence was future Hall of Fame quarterback Ken Stabler. San Jose Apaches
The San Jose Apaches were a professional American football team based in San Jose, California. The Apaches were formed as a semi-professional team in 1962 and were members of the Northern California Semi-Pro Football League and Pacific Football League (sometimes known as the Pacific Coast Football League). In 1967 the Apaches and other members of the Pacific league joined the Continental Football League as the new Pacific Division. The Sacramento Capitols were a professional American football team based in Sacramento, California. Formed as the Sacramento Buccaneers, the team's inclusion in the Pacific Division of the Continental Football League was announced in May 1967.
