People's Liberation Army Beijing Garrison District is a military district of corps grade (æ£å†›çº§) under the direct jurisdiction of the PLA Army HQ and the Central Military Commission. The Garrison is responsible for the defense of the city of Beijing, the protection of all the state institutions in the capital, military mobilization in case of war, and civilian-military relations. History The Beijing Garrison District was created from the old Beijing Military Region in August of 2016, as part of the 2015 reforms. Due to the importance of the capital, and the sensitivity of its military affairs, the garrison was given its own military district, distinct to the Central Theater Command, and was placed directly under the control of the Central Military Commission. The Beijing Garrison Honor Guard Battalion (), officially the PLA Honour Guard, is a ceremonial Guard of honour, honour guard and specialised unit of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Fuxing Road () is a road in western Beijing, China, forming part of the extended Chang'an Avenue. The entire road lies within the confines of Haidian District. The Tiananmen , also Tian'anmen, is the entrance gate of the Forbidden City imperial palace complex and Imperial City in the center of Beijing, China. It is widely used as a national symbol. First built in 1420 during the Ming dynasty, Tiananmen was the entrance to the Emperor's residence, through which all visitors to the palace walked. The Xinjiang Military District (新疆军区) is a special military area of the PLA at the Theater Deputy-grade.(副战区级). It is one of three districts (Tibet and Beijing being the other two) that are directly under the Central Military Commission and its Joint Army Staff rather than under their Theater Command (in this case, the Western Theater Command.) The Central Theater Command is one of the five theater commands of the People's Liberation Army of China, and was founded on 1 February 2016. Its predecessors were the Beijing Military Region and Jinan Military Region.
