Ottery St. Mary A.F.C., nicknamed "The Otters", is a football club based in Ottery St Mary, Devon, England. The club is affiliated to the Devon County Football Association. They play in the . History The club was established in 1911. After the Second World War, the club played in the Exeter and Devon League, which in 1972 was renamed the Devon and Exeter league. They joined the South Western Football League in 1974, after winning the Devon and Exeter League the season before. After only two seasons, Ottery moved on to the Western League's newly created Division One. The club's fifth season in Division One marked their debut in the FA Cup, when they lost to Newquay 8–0 in the preliminary qualifying round. Jason Rees (footballer)
Jason Mark Rees (born 22 December 1969) is a Welsh former professional footballer and Wales international. Club career Rees began his career with Luton Town before moving to Portsmouth in 1994 on a free transfer, having spent the majority of the 1993–94 season on loan at Mansfield Town. He struggled to hold down a first team place at Fratton Park and was allowed to join Exeter City on loan during the 1996–97 season but a permanent move never materialised and he returned to Portsmouth until his release at the end of the season. After a spell with Cambridge United, he returned to Exeter City on a permanent deal in 1998. Following his release by Exeter, Rees spent time on trial with Cheltenham Town, eventually joining Tiverton Town. He returned to The Football League several months later in December 2000 with Torquay United, where he spent two seasons before rejoining Tiverton in 2002. David Pook
David Charles Pook (born 16 January 1955) is an English former professional footballer. He was manager of Western League club Torrington until June 2007. Pook was born in Plymouth and began his career as an apprentice with Bristol City. He moved to Torquay United during his apprenticeship and made his league debut while still an apprentice, as a substitute in the 1–1 draw at home to Bolton Wanderers on the final day of the 1971–72 season which by that time had already seen Torquay relegated to the Fourth Division. Pook played a number of times for Torquay before turning professional in January 1973, but left at the end of the season to join Plymouth Argyle. However, he left Argyle after just three months due to a serious injury. After six months out of the game, Pook moved to France to play for Morlaix where he spent two years before returning to England. Phil Roberts
Phillip Stanley Roberts (born 24 February 1950) is a Welsh former professional footballer whose four-club career spanned three decades. Born in Cardiff, Roberts won six Wales Under 23 caps whilst with his first club Bristol Rovers (where he is still widely regarded ). In all Roberts was to make 175 appearances for Rovers before moving to Portsmouth in the 1973 close season as part of new chairman John Deacon's ambitious re-building plans. He was to prove such an effective player on the south coast that in 1974 he was awarded four full Welsh caps. Roberts was to hold the right back spot at Fratton Park for four seasons, his final appearance being in the 5–1 thrashing which consigned the club to fourth division football for the first time in their history. Richard George Ebdon (3 May 1913 – 27 April 1987) was an English professional football forward. He was born and died in Ottery St Mary, Devon. Dick "Digger" Ebdon joined Exeter City from local side Ottery St Mary in December 1935 and went on to score 52 goals in 139 league games for the Grecians in a career interrupted by war. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. South West Peninsula League
The South West Peninsula League (SWPL) is a football competition in England, which was formed in 2007 from the merger of the Devon County League and the South Western League. The league is restricted to clubs based in Cornwall, Devon and West Dorset. The league consists of two Premier Divisions (East and West), which are ranked at Step 6 in the National League System. Until 2019–20, there was a single Premier Division at Step 6, and two divisions at Step 7 (Division One West and Division One East). Ottery St Mary, known as "Ottery", is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about east of Exeter on the B3174. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the villages of Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John, Wiggaton, and (until 2017) West Hill, had a population of 7,692. The population of the urban area alone at the 2011 census was 4,898. There are two electoral wards in Ottery (Rural and Town). The total population of both wards, including the adjacent civil parish of Aylesbeare, at the 2011 census was 9,022.
