Ori Kobo (born April 24, 1997) is an Israeli chess grandmaster. Chess career In November 2022, he was part of the Israeli team alongside Maxim Rodshtein, Tamir Nabaty, Avital Boruchovsky, Ilia Smirin, and Evgeny Postny in the World Team Championship. In December 2022, he finished 6th in the Israeli Chess Championship. In July 2023, he was defeated by Alexander Donchenko in a 96-move game in the Sportland NRW Cup. Kobo competed in the Chess World Cup 2023, where he was defeated by Valentin Dragnev Valentin Dragnev (born 5 March 1999) has been an Austrian grandmaster since 2018, an international master since 2016 and a FIDE master since 2014. Israeli Chess Championship
The Israeli Chess Championship is a chess event held every year in Israel. History From 1951 to 1971, the men's and women's championships were held every two years, eventually becoming an annual event. The 1998 Championship was held 8–24 November in Ramat Aviv. The single-elimination tournament, 32 players in the men's section and 16 in the women's, used an unusual time control of 100 minutes for 30 moves + 30 seconds per move. GM Eran Liss won the men's final over GM Victor Mikhalevski. After tying their 2-game match with one victory apiece, they then tied an active chess playoff with one win and two draws each. In a 5-minute blitz playoff, Liss won 2–0. Irina Yudasina won the women's final over Ella Pitem with one win and one draw. Valentin Dragnev (born 5 March 1999) has been an Austrian grandmaster since 2018, an international master since 2016 and a FIDE master since 2014. He is currently the 2nd best player in Austria and 431st in the world. His highest rating was 2593 (in May 2023). Chess World Cup 2023
The Chess World Cup 2023 was a 206-player single-elimination chess tournament that took place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 30 July to 24 August 2023. It was the 10th edition of the Chess World Cup. The top three finishers in the tournament qualified for the 2024 Candidates Tournament. The tournament was held in parallel with the Women's Chess World Cup 2023. Jan-Krzysztof Duda was the defending champion. He lost in the fifth round (last 16) to Fabiano Caruana. Format The tournament was an eight-round knockout event, with the top 50 seeds having been given a bye directly into the second round. The losers of the two semi-finals played a match for third place. The players who finished first, second, and third qualified for the Candidates Tournament 2024, a tournament to decide the challenger for the upcoming World Championship. Alexander Anatolyevich Donchenko (russian: Александр Анатольевич Донченко; born 22 March 1998) is a Russian-German chess grandmaster. Evgeny Postny (born 3 July 1981) is an Israeli chess player. He was awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2002. Ilya (or Ilia) Smirin ( he, איליה יוליביץ' סמירין; russian: Илья Юльевич Смирин, Ilya Yulievich Smirin; born January 21, 1968) is a Byelorussian SSR-born and an Israeli chess player. Avital Boruchovsky (16 May 1997) is an Israeli chess player. He was awarded the International Master title in 2012. In 2014, FIDE additionally awarded him the Grandmaster title, subject to achieving a 2500 Elo rating.
