Alexander Anatolyevich Donchenko (russian: Александр Анатольевич Донченко; born 22 March 1998) is a Russian-German chess grandmaster. He is the No. 4 ranked German player Chess career Born in 1998, Donchenko earned his international master title in 2012 and his grandmaster title in 2015. In March 2018, he competed in the European Individual Chess Championship. He placed 114th, scoring 6/11 (+4–3=4). He participated in the European Championship again in 2019, placing 103rd with 6½/11 (+5–3=3). Donchenko shared second with Gata Kamsky at the Biel Masters in July 2019 with 6½/9 (+5–1=3), half a point behind winner Amin Tabatabaei. The Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2024 was the 86th edition of the annual chess tournament held in Wijk aan Zee from 13–28 January 2024. The competition followed a similar format to the previous year's edition, taking place at the Dorpshuis De Moriaan in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, while round 9 of the Masters section was played at the AFAS Circustheater in The Hague, Netherlands as part of the competition's "Chess on Tour" event. The Masters section was won by China's Wei Yi, who defeated India's Gukesh D by a score of 1.5–0.5 in the finals of a four-player knockout tournament tiebreak. Tata Steel Chess Tournament
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament is an annual chess tournament held in January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. It was called the Hoogovens Tournament from its creation in 1938 until the sponsor Koninklijke Hoogovens merged with British Steel to form the Corus Group in 1999, after which the tournament was called the Corus Chess Tournament. Corus Group became Tata Steel Europe in 2007. Despite the name changes, the series is numbered sequentially from its Hoogovens beginnings; for example, the 2011 event was referred to as the 73rd Tata Steel Chess Tournament. Top grandmasters compete in the tournament, but regular club players are welcome to play as well.
