Ora Elmer Hunt
Ora Elmer Hunt (June 26, 1872 – August 20, 1969) was an officer of the U.S. Army from 1894 to 1923. After graduating from United States Military Academy, he participated during the Philippine Insurrection. He was a graduate from the Infantry and Cavalry school at Fort Leavenworth and the Army Staff College from 1906 to 1907. He was a professor of English, modern languages and history at United States Military Academy from 1912 to 1914 and again in 1917. During World War I, Hunt was colonel of the 320th Infantry at Camp Lee. In 1918, he was promoted to brigadier general during the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and the Meuse–Argonne offensive. Boonville, California
Boonville (formerly The Corners and Kendall's City) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mendocino County, California, United States. It is located southwest of Ukiah, at an elevation of 381 feet (116 m). The population was 1,018 at the 2020 census. History Boonville was founded by John Bregartes in 1862. It was originally called "The Corners". Bregartes built a hotel there, and in 1864 Alonzo Kendall built another. The town became known as "Kendall's City". W.W. Boone bought a store in town and gave the place its current name. The first post office opened in 1875, having been transferred from Anderson. Geography Boonville is in southern Mendocino County, in the Anderson Valley, north of San Francisco. West Point Cemetery
West Point Cemetery is a historic cemetery on the grounds of the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, West Point, New York (state), New York. It overlooks the Hudson River, and served as a burial ground for Continental Army soldiers during the American Revolutionary War, and for early West Point residents prior to its designation as a military cemetery in 1817. Northwest of the cadet area, it was known as "German Flats" before its formal designation as the official cemetery in 1817. Until that time several small burial plots scattered in mid-post also served as places of interment. The graves from these plots and the remains subsequently found during building excavations were removed to the new site. An improved road to the cemetery was constructed in 1840, and the caretaker's cottage was erected in 1872. Saint-Mihiel () is a commune in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region in Northeastern France. Geography Saint-Mihiel lies on the banks of the river Meuse. History A Benedictine abbey was established here in 708 or 709 by Count Wulfoalde and his wife Adalsinde. The library, containing over 9,000 works, is still on the original site. During World War I, Saint-Mihiel was captured by the Germans in 1914, and was recaptured during the Battle of Saint-Mihiel by the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) from 12 September to 19 September 1918. Charles Crawford (United States Army Officer)
Charles Crawford (27 December 1866 – 28 December 1945) was a United States Army officer and an author. He served in the Spanish–American War, the Philippines and World War I. Early life and education Crawford was born in Coshocton, Ohio, to Thomas Crawford and Margaret Parkhill. In 1889, Crawford graduated 41st in a class of 49 from the United States Military Academy, where he was a classmate of future army generals such as George L. Irwin, Charles D. Rhodes, William G. Haan, Clement Flagler, William Lassiter, Edward McGlachlin Jr. and William S. Graves. Later, he graduated from the Army War College in 1912. 83rd Infantry Division (United States)
The 83rd Infantry Division ("Thunderbolt") was a formation of the United States Army in World War I and World War II. World War I The division was activated in September 1917 at Camp Sherman, Ohio. It was initially made up of enlisted draftees from Ohio and Pennsylvania, with a cadre of Regular Army, Officers Reserve Corps, and National Army officers. Later groups of enlisted men assigned to the division to replace men transferred to other units came from Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The division went overseas in June 1918, and was designated as the 2nd Depot Division. It supplied over 195,000 officers and enlisted men as replacements to other units in France without seeing action as a complete formation.
