''Opisthoteuthis'', from Ancient Greek wikt:ὄπισθεν, ὄπισθεν (''ópisthen''), meaning "back", and wikt:τευθίς, τευθίς (''teuthís''), meaning "squid", is a genus of Cirrata, cirrate octopuses, sometimes known as flapjack octopuses, which are found in all the world's oceans. Behavior Like other Cirrata, cirrates, octopuses in'' Opisthoteuthis'' are generally small, and many dwell in the deep sea. They have Cirrus (biology), cirri on their arms, internal Cirrate shell, shells to support their bodies, and muscular fins for steering. The Gulf of Mexico () is an oceanic basin and a marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean, mostly surrounded by the North American continent.
