Operation Active Endeavour
Operation Active Endeavour was a Navy, maritime operation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It operated in the Mediterranean Sea and was designed to prevent the movement of terrorists or weapons of mass destruction. It had collateral benefits in enhanced security of shipping in general. It was one of the first military actions taken by NATO in response to an invocation of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty which provides for collective defense and the first-ever operation conducted by the Alliance in direct application of the defense clause of the Treaty. In November 2016 it was replaced by the non-Article-5 Operation Sea Guardian. Ula-class Submarine
The ''Ula'' class is a Norway, Norwegian submarine type which was assembled in Germany in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The class, consisting of six vessels, is currently the only submarine type in service with the Royal Norwegian Navy. History The ordering of a new Norwegian submersible design stemmed from a 1972 decision to modernise the Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN) submarine flotilla, which then consisted of the aging submarines. The contract was signed on 30 September 1982 for six boats with Nordseewerke, Thyssen Nordseewerke, Emden. Allied Maritime Command Naples
Allied Maritime Command (MC) Naples (MC Naples) was a subordinate command of Allied Joint Force Command Naples. MC Naples operated from the island of Nisida in the Gulf of Pozzuoli and its commander reported directly to the Commander Allied Joint Force Command Naples (Com JFC Naples). Richard Leaman
Rear Admiral Richard Derek Leaman, (born 27 July 1956) is a British charity executive and former senior Royal Navy officer. Since 2021, he has been Diocesan Secretary and CEO of the Diocese of Bristol. He was previously CEO of The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association (2010 to 2016) and CEO of the Tall Ships Youth Trust (2017 to 2020). Vice Admiral Roberto Cesaretti is a retired Italian naval officer who served as Deputy Chief of Staff Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. Italian Frigate Aliseo (F 574)
''Aliseo'' (F 574) is the fifth ship of the Maestrale-class frigate of the Italian Navy. Development The ''Maestrale''-class frigates were primarily designed for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), however the ships are highly flexible so they are also capable of anti-air and anti-surface operations. Ships of this class have been widely used in various international missions, either under NATO or UN flag, and during normal operations of the Italian Navy. The first of these ships entered in service in early 1982. The rest of the fleet was launched over the next three years. The ships of the ''Maestrale'' class will be replaced by the ''Bergamini'' class. Construction and career She was laid down on 26 February 1980 and launched on 29 October 1982 by Fincantieri shipyards. Commissioned on 20 September 1983 with the hull number F 574.
