''One Is a Lonely Number'' (also known as ''Two Is a Happy Number'') is a 1972 American drama film directed by Mel Stuart, and starring Trish Van Devere, Janet Leigh, and Melvyn Douglas. The screenplay, based upon the short story "The Good Humor Man" by Rebecca Morris, was written by David Seltzer. Plot The story follows Aimee Brower (Van Devere), who wakes and finds her husband has left her. After learning everything about why he did it, she then proceeds to put her life back together. Mel Stuart
Mel Stuart (born Stuart Solomon; September 2, 1928 – August 9, 2012) was an American film director and producer who often worked with producer David L. Wolper, at whose production firm he worked for 17 years, before going freelance. Early life Stuart was born Stuart Solomon. He was of Jewish background. Career Stuart directed the fantasy-musical '' Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory'' (1971). He directed other features, including '' If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium'' (1969), '' One Is a Lonely Number'' (1972) and '' Running on the Sun: The Badwater 135'' (2000). Joe Spano
Joseph Peter Spano (born July 7, 1946) is an American actor known best for his roles as Lt. Henry Goldblume on ''Hill Street Blues'' and FBI Special Agent Tobias C. Fornell on '' NCIS''. He also voiced the Chuck E. Cheese (at the time Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre) character, Pasqually the Chef, from 1977 to 1983. Career Spano was a member of the San Francisco improvisation group The Wing, and in college debuted as Paris in a production of ''Romeo and Juliet'' in 1967. In 1968, he helped found the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, acting in its first production, and stayed with the company for ten years. He relocated to Hollywood during the late 1970s, obtaining guest roles for television and minor roles in ''American Graffiti'' (1973) and '' The Enforcer'' (1976).
