The Ohio River Subdivision is a specific portion of a railroad system that runs along the Ohio River, owned and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The line runs from Wheeling southwesterly along the east (left) shore of the Ohio River to Huntington along a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line. The Ohio River Subdivision intersects the Short Line Subdivision at New Martinsville, the Marietta Subdivision at Parkersburg, and the Kanawha Subdivision at Huntington. Kanawha River
The Kanawha River ( ) is a tributary of the Ohio River, approximately 97 mi (156 km) long, in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The largest inland waterway in West Virginia, its valley has been a significant industrial region of the state since early in the 19th century. It is formed at the town of Gauley Bridge in northwestern Fayette County, approximately 35 mi (56 km) SE of Charleston, by the confluence of the New and Gauley rivers. The Marietta Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation and operated by Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad in the U.S. states of West Virginia and Ohio. The line runs from Parkersburg, West Virginia, west to Belpre, Ohio, and north via Marietta to Relief (near Beverly, Ohio) along a former Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road line. Moundsville is a city in Marshall County, West Virginia, United States, along the Ohio River. It is part of the Wheeling, West Virginia metropolitan area. The population was 8,122 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The city was named for the nearby ancient Grave Creek Mound, constructed 250 to 100 BC by indigenous people of the Adena culture. The Point Pleasant Rail Bridge is a truss bridge that carries the West Virginia Secondary over the Ohio River between Gallia County, Ohio and Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Kanawha River Railroad
The Kanawha River Railroad is a common-carrier railroad in the United States. A subsidiary of Watco, it leases 309 miles of track in the US states of Ohio and West Virginia from Norfolk Southern. The KNWA also operates an additional 6 miles of track on the southern side of the Kanawha River, where the railroad breaks down, loads, and rebuilds coal trains before handing them off to CSX Transportation.
