Railroad
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. Gallipolis ( ) is a chartered village in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Gallia County. Middleport is a village in Meigs County, Ohio, along the Ohio River. The population was 2,530 at the time of the 2010 census. History Middleport was founded during the 1820s, a time of great prosperity and rapidly increasing commerce in Meigs County. Kanawha River Railroad
The Kanawha River Railroad is a common-carrier railroad in the United States. A subsidiary of Watco, it leases 309 miles of track in the US states of Ohio and West Virginia from Norfolk Southern. The KNWA also operates an additional 6 miles of track on the southern side of the Kanawha River, where the railroad breaks down, loads, and rebuilds coal trains before handing them off to CSX Transportation. The West Virginia Secondary is a rail line that connects Columbus, Ohio, to Charleston, West Virginia, and beyond to the Gauley River valley, ending in Enon, West Virginia. The line is about 250 miles long. It crosses the Ohio River over the Point Pleasant Rail Bridge. The line was built in the late 19th century in segments by several railroads, most notably the Toledo and Ohio Central Railway and Kanawha and Michigan Railroad. These were all acquired by the New York Central Railroad in 1910, and later passed to Penn Central and then Conrail. In 1999 it became part of Norfolk Southern Railway.
