Ode Records
Ode Records (also known as Ode Sounds and Visuals) was an American record label, started by Lou Adler in 1967 after he sold Dunhill Records to ABC Records. It was distributed by CBS's Epic Records except between 1970 and 1976, when the label was distributed by A&M Records. The original incarnation was closed in 1978 and CBS took over most of catalog, often with Epic logos replacing Ode logos on reissues. Ode has the distinction of being the first non-CBS label to be distributed by CBS Records. Adler reactivated the label several times, including another short run with A&M in 1989. It was disbanded when A&M was sold to PolyGram in late 1989. Ode is now part of Sony Music Entertainment (the successor to CBS), excluding: * Cheech & Chong catalogue is controlled by Warner Music Group. After Cheech & Chong switched to Warner Bros. Lou Adler
Lester Louis Adler (born December 13, 1933) is an American record and film producer and the co-owner of the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California. Adler has produced and developed a number of high-profile musical artists, including The Grass Roots, Jan & Dean, The Mamas & the Papas, and Carole King. King's album ''Tapestry'', produced by Adler, won the 1972 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and has been called one of the greatest pop albums of all time. Adler is an executive producer of ''The Rocky Horror Picture Show'' and discovered and produced comedy albums and films for Cheech & Chong. In 2006, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his achievements in music. Castle Communications
Castle Communications, also known as Castle Music, was a British independent record label and home video distributor founded in 1983 by Terry Shand, Cliff Dane, and Jon Beecher. Its video imprint was called Castle Vision. The label's production ceased in 2007, and its remaining rights are now chiefly vested in BMG Rights Management. Castle also operated a subsidiary label, Essential Records. Spirit (band)
Spirit was an American rock band founded in 1967 and based in Los Angeles. Their most commercially successful single in the United States was " I Got a Line on You". They were also known for their albums, including their self-titled debut album, '' The Family That Plays Together'', '' Clear'', and '' Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus''. Original lineup The original lineup of the group evolved from a Los Angeles band, the Red Roosters, which included Randy California (born Randy Craig Wolfe; guitars, vocals), Mark Andes (bass) and Jay Ferguson (vocals, percussion). Tom Scott (saxophonist)
Thomas Wright Scott (born May 19, 1948) is an American saxophonist, composer, and arranger. He was a member of the Blues Brothers and led the jazz fusion group L.A. Express. Early life, family and education Scott was born in Los Angeles, California, US. He is the son of film and television composer Nathan Scott (composer), Nathan Scott, who had more than 850 television credits and more than 100 film credits as a composer, orchestrator, and conductor, including music for ''Dragnet (series), Dragnet'' and ''Lassie (1954 TV series), Lassie''. Scott McKenzie (born Philip Wallach Blondheim III; January 10, 1939 – August 18, 2012) was an American singer and songwriter who recorded the 1967 hit single and generational anthem " San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)". London Symphony Orchestra
The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is a British symphony orchestra based in London. Founded in 1904, the LSO is the oldest of London's orchestras, symphony orchestras. The LSO was created by a group of players who left Henry Wood's Queen's Hall Orchestra because of a new rule requiring players to give the orchestra their exclusive services. The LSO itself later introduced a similar rule for its members. From the outset the LSO was organised on co-operative lines, with all players sharing the profits at the end of each season. The Comfortable Chair
The Comfortable Chair is a West Coast musical group that released one self-titled album, ''The Comfortable Chair'', in 1968. The name of the band refers to sitting in a comfortable chair while meditating—a practice in transcendental meditation, with which several members were involved. History The Comfortable Chair was formed in 1967. Although the group was reportedly discovered by Jim Morrison of The Doors, he had no involvement with the group, which was discovered and produced by Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger. Merry Clayton (born December 25, 1948) is an American soul and gospel singer.
