Odd Fellow Palæet
The Odd Fellows Mansion ( Danish: Odd Fellow Palæet) is a Rococo town mansion in Copenhagen, Denmark, named after the local branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows which acquired the building in 1900. Before that, it was known as the Berckentin and later the Schimmelmann Mansion after its successive owners. The Building is located on Bredgade, opposite Dronningens Tværgade for which it serves as a ''point de vue''. It houses a concert hall which is open to the public. History The Berckentin era The site was formerly located in the cast Sophie Amalienborg gardens. The present building on the site was constructed in conjunction with the development of the new Frederiksstaden district. Dronningens Tværgade (literal translation, lit. "The Queen's Cross Street") is a street in central Copenhagen, Denmark, which runs from Bredgade to Rosenborg Castle Garden. The street originally formed a link between the King's Garden (Rosenborg Castle Gardens) and the Sophie Amalienborg, Queen's Garden. With the Odd Fellows Mansion, Copenhagen, Odd Fellows Mansion on Bredgade and the central pavilions of the east fringe of the castle garden located at each their end, the street has axis of symmetry, axial qualities. Louise Scheel von Plessen (''née'' Countess Louise von Berckentin; Vienna, 26 April 1725 – Celle, 14 September 1799) was a Danish lady-in-waiting and memoir writer. She wrote the memoirs of her time at the Danish court: ''Mémoires de la cour de Danemark''. Life Early life She was the daughter of Count Christian August von Berckentin (sometimes "Berkentin"; 1694–1758), the Danish ambassador to Austria, and his spouse, Susanna Margrethe von Boineburg zu Honstein (1697–1732). Thott Mansion
The Thott Mansion ( Danish: Thotts Palæ) is a listed town mansion located on Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built for the naval officer Niels Juel in the 1680s but his Baroque mansion was later adapted to the Neoclassical style by the French architect Nicolas-Henri Jardin in 1763. The building takes its current name from the Thott family, who owned it from 1750 to 1930. It now houses the French embassy. Rudolph Puggaard (7 January 1818 – 9 December 1885) was a Danish merchant, patron of the arts and philanthropist. Early life and education Puggaard was born into a family of merchants on 7 January 1818 in Copenhagen. His father, Hans Puggaard had founded H. Puggaard & Co. in 1813. His mother, Bolette Puggaard, née Hage, a painter, was the daughter of Christopher Friedrich Hage, a wealthy merchant from Stege on Møn. He graduated from Roskilde Cathedral School in 1837 and was then trained as a merchant in Hamburg and London. His younger brother was the geologist Christopher Puggaard. Career H. Puggaard & Co. Magdalene Charlotte Hedevig Schimmelmann (10 August 1757 – 2 December 1816) was a Danish noblewoman and salonist. Biography Magdalene Charlotte Schubart was born at Fossum in Skien, Norway to Lieutenant Carl Rudolph Schubart (1714–59) and Inger Løvenskiold (1732–1808). On 25 May 1782, she married the statesman Count Ernst Heinrich von Schimmelmann (1747–1831). After the coup d'état against Ove Høegh-Guldberg in 1784, he became Minister of Finance until 1813 and later Prime Minister. Her salon was organized according to the French pattern and was renowned abroad. The latest developments in science, politics and culture were discussed. She considered it a profession to be a salonist. Her salon gathered philosophers and politicians, and played a part in the country's political scene.
