New York City Ballet
New York City Ballet (NYCB) is a ballet company founded in 1948 by choreographer George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein. Balanchine and Jerome Robbins are considered the founding choreographers of the company. Léon Barzin was the company's first music director. ''Roberta'' is a musical from 1933 with music by Jerome Kern, and lyrics and book by Otto Harbach. The musical is based on the novel ''Gowns by Roberta'' by Alice Duer Miller. It features the songs " Yesterdays", " Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", " Let's Begin", "You're Devastating", "Something Had To Happen", "The Touch of Your Hand" and " I'll Be Hard to Handle". Productions The original Broadway production opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on November 18, 1933, and ran for 295 performances closing on 21 July 1934. Robert R. Lindgren is an American lawyer and educator, and the 15th president of Randolph-Macon College. Education Lindgren graduated Omicron Delta Kappa from the University of Florida in 1976. While he was in college he became a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and was awarded the Significant Sig Award in 2007. He appears on the list of notable alumni for the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Lindgren earned his J.D. degree from the Levin College of Law at UF in 1981 and his master's degree from Oxford University in 1978. William Weslow
William Weslow was an American dancer who split his career between ballet and musical theatre. Dance career Weslow studied ballet with the noted teacher Mary Ann Wells, whose other students included Marc Platt and Tommy Rall. He spent most of his career with the New York City Ballet, where he was promoted to soloist by 1960. In addition to featured roles in George Balanchine's ''Night Shadows'' (or ''La Somnambula''), ''Theme and Variations'', ''The Prodigal Son'', ''Western Symphony'', and ''The Four Temperaments'', Weslow also danced in ballets by Frederick Ashton, Todd Bolender, Willam Christensen, and Lew Christensen. Dido ( ; , ), also known as Elissa ( , ), was the legendary founder and first queen of the Phoenician city-state of Carthage (located in modern Tunisia), in 814 BC. Edward Villella
Edward Villella (born October 1, 1936) is an American ballet dancer and choreographer. He is frequently cited as America's most celebrated male dancer of ballet at the time. He has won numerous awards, including the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Special, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the National Medal of Arts. Education Villella enrolled in the School of American Ballet at age ten, and then the High School of Performing Arts, but then interrupted his dance studies to complete his college education. He attended the New York Maritime Academy, where he lettered in baseball and was a championship boxer. He graduated with a marine science degree in 1957, and rejoined the School of American Ballet.
