Obselidia
''Obselidia'' is a 2010 American road drama film written and directed by Diane Bell in her directorial debut. It stars Michael Piccirilli, Gaynor Howe, and Frank Hoyt Taylor. It tells the story of a lonely librarian who believes love is obsolete until a road trip to Death Valley with a beguiling cinema projectionist teaches him otherwise. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2010, where it was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Prize and the Excellence in Cinematography Award. It was then self-distributed, and received positive reviews from critics. At the 26th Independent Spirit Awards, it was nominated for Best First Screenplay (for Bell) and the John Cassavetes Award. Diane Bell (director)
Diane Bell is a Scottish filmmaker who works and resides in Los Angeles. Early life and education Bell grew up in Japan, Australia and Germany. She graduated with a master's degree in mental philosophy from the University of Edinburgh. She practices Ashtanga yoga, and taught yoga in Barcelona, Spain. Career Her first film as writer/director, Obselidia, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2010 in Dramatic Narrative Competition and won two awards, the Alfred P. Sloan Award and Excellence in Cinematography. Zak Mulligan
Zak Mulligan is an American film and television cinematographer. He is best known for his work on '' Hustle'', '' We the Animals'', '' The Outsider'', and '' Open Heart''. Career Mulligan was born and raised in Ohio. He started his film career in New York City shortly after studying Photography at Arizona State University. Liam Coverdale Howe (born 29 September 1974) is an English record producer, musician and songwriter. Since co-founding electronic music band Sneaker Pimps in 1996, he has been a producer for Lana Del Rey, Marina and the Diamonds, FKA Twigs, Ellie Goulding, and Tom Vek. Career Musical beginnings In 1992, after numerous indie attempts to create music, he formed the dance act F.R.I.S.K. with fellow Northerner and childhood friend Chris Corner, and released the white label ''The Soul of Indiscretion'' EP. The Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award is presented to the creative team of a film budgeted at less than $1,000,000 by the Film Independent, a non-profit organization dedicated to independent film and independent filmmakers. It is named after actor/screenwriter/ director John Cassavetes, a pioneer of American independent film. The award is given to the directors, writers and producers of a film. Ballarat is an unincorporated community in Inyo County, California. It was founded in 1897 as a supply point for the mines in the canyons of the Panamint Range. A quarter-mile to the south is Post Office Springs, a reliable water source used since the 1850s. Death Valley Junction, more commonly known as Amargosa (Spanish for "Bitter"), is a tiny Mojave Desert unincorporated community in Inyo County, California, at the intersection of SR 190 and SR 127, in the Amargosa Valley and just east of Death Valley National Park.
