Jacob Obermeyer (21 March 1845 in Steinhart – 1 March 1938 in Würzburg) was a Bavarian Jewish oriental researcher, scholar and a traveler, and the grandfather of the Israeli agent Meir Max Bineth. Biography Early years Jacob Obermeyer was born in 1845, at Steinhart in Bavaria, modern-day Germany. His intellectual and spiritual training included men such as Chacham Isaac Bernays, rabbi Jacob Ettlinger and rabbi Seligman Bamberger. Throughout his youth he acquired Talmudic knowledge. In early childhood he started to show a particular interest in the oriental Jewish life. In 1868 he traveled through North Africa from Morocco to Egypt and crossed the whole of Palestine and part of Syria to Damascus. Klaus F. Obermeyer (born December 2, 1919) is a German-born American businessman who is the founder of Sport Obermeyer, Ltd. Biography In 1947, Klaus arrived in Aspen, Colorado, where his friend Friedl Pfeiffer had opened the Aspen Ski School. Over the next twelve years, he spent his days working as a ski instructor on Aspen Mountain (ski area), Aspen Mountain. He founded Sport Obermeyer based on insights he had gained about skiwear while working as an instructor and started the business in the attic of his home. Erich Meyer (born 6 August 1951) is an Austrian engineer, amateur astronomer and discoverer of asteroids. Astronomical career Between 1996 and 1999, using the private observatory Meyer/Obermair in Davidschlag (municipality Kirchschlag bei Linz, Austria), he discovered a total of 21 asteroids. Seven of these asteroids were discovered together with his colleague Erwin Obermair and one together with Herbert Raab. Furthermore, he was involved in six other discoveries of asteroids between 1996 and 2005, which were assigned as site discoveries to the observatory Davidschlag by the International Astronomical Union. Meyer's most important observations include precisie astrometry of the comet Shoemaker–Levy 9, which he observed together with Erwin Obermair and Herbert Raab in 1993. Erwin Obermair (29 August 1946 in Hargelsberg – 15 January 2017 in Linz) was an Austrian amateur astronomer and co-discoverer of asteroids. Together with his colleague and amateur astronomer Erich Meyer, Obermair built the private observatory Meyer/Obermair () in Davidschlag (municipality Kirchschlag bei Linz, Austria), in 1978. He co-discovered a total of 7 asteroids at this observatory, all together with Meyer.
