OBO Aréna
Obo is the capital of Haut-Mbomou, one of the 20 prefectures of the Central African Republic. It is close to the African Pole of Inaccessibility. History Obo was named after the local Zande chief Ogbo, with the spelling changed slightly in later years. Ogbo ruled the territory between the Mbokou and Kamou rivers. However, a conflict emerged when nearby Chief Gougbéré annexed much of Ogbo's territory on the pretext that the inhabitants were from the same ethnic group as him. Ogbo petitioned Sultan Zémio, who was his first cousin once removed, to help, but the sultan did not intervene. Ogbo then asked French colonial captain Maurice Martin to mediate in 1910. Martin sided with Ogbo's land claims, but said that any new settlements should be allowed to remain. French military general Jean Baptiste Marchand passed through the area on his journey to find the source of the Nile. Arrow Boys
The Arrow Boys are a militia operating in the Western Equatoria region of South Sudan. The militia sprung up as a self-defense unit who get their name from their use of bows and arrows supposedly treated with poison, and other traditional weapons. Lord's Resistance Army rebellion During the insurgency by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Uganda, the Arrow Boys were formed in Teso in the Eastern Region as a self-defense militia. As the Lord's Resistance Army fled Uganda into South Sudan, the militia spread there as well in order to defend against the LRA. Radio Zereda
Radio Zereda is a community radio station based in Obo, Haut-Mbomou, Central African Republic. The name ''Zereda'' derives from Zande language, meaning ''peace''. The radio station received support from Invisible Children and is part of Réseau des Journalistes pour les Droits de l'Homme en Centrafrique. In 2012, Radio Zereda was popular among the Obo residents and became their main news source. History Arthur Zoungagde founded Radio Zereda on 17 June 2008. In the beginning, Radio Zereda coverage only reached 5 km from the station, broadcasting with a homemade transmitter and transmitting antenna from the kapok tree. With assistance from the local community and NGOs, Radio Zereda could air up to 25 km. In 2018, Radio Zereda could reach a radius of up to 150 km. United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (also called MINUSCA, which is an initialism of its French name Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations unies pour la stabilisation en Centrafrique) is a UN peacekeeping mission, which started on April 10, 2014, to protect Central African Republic civilians under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC, ) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic which controls southern parts of the country. History UPC was formed on 17 September 2014 by Ali Darassa from the ex-Séléka elements. Their initial headquarters was Bambari, however they were forced to retreat on 6 March 2017. On 10 January 2019, they launched a heavy attack on MINUSCA forces in Bambari vowing to recapture the city. Lord's Resistance Army
The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) is a Christian extremist organization operating in Central Africa and East Africa. Its origins were in the War in Uganda (1986–1994), Ugandan insurgency (1986–1994) against Yoweri Museveni, during which Joseph Kony founded the LRA in 1987. The group is active in northern Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
