An-Nukhba Al-Shabwaniyya
The Shabwani Elite (; ''An-Nukhba al-Shabwaniyya'') are a military unit operating in the Shabwah Governorate of Yemen, mainly against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). The unit consisted of at least 6,000 troops and controlled the majority of the province as of early November 2017, according to its commander Mohamed Salem al-Qumishi. Armed and trained by the United Arab Emirates, the Shabwani Elite began a large operation against AQAP on August 2, 2017, with the backing of Emirati and American forces, capturing the city of Ataq Ataq (), alternately spelled Attaq, is a small city and the capital of Shabwah Governorate in Yemen. The Jaysh al-Nukhba (''Elite Army'' (), formerly called the ''Liberation Army'' (: Jaysh al-Tahrir) was a group operating in the Hama and Aleppo Governorates, backed and supported by Turkey. The group was formed from five units, some of which received BGM-71 TOW missiles from the United States. Nukhba Force
The Nukhba forces (), Nukhba Force or just (Al-)Nukhba (; ) is the special forces unit of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. The term is frequently used to refer to Hamas militants. In 2024, the usage of the word roughly corresponds to "Hamas militant" or "Hamas commando". Israel claims the unit led the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, at the beginning of the Gaza war.
