Nova Basan
Nova Basan ( uk, Нова Басань) is a village (selo) of Ukraine, in Nizhyn Raion, Chernihiv Oblast. It hosts the administration of Nova Basan rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. History In 1897, a post office was opened in Nova Basan. According to the Russian Empire Census of 1897, it had a population 7326, of whom 3460 were men and 3866 women. 6930 were Orthodox. During the 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine, the village was occupied by Russia after the initial invasion but was retaken by Ukraine in early April. Demographics According to the 1989 USSR Census, the village had a population of 4017, of whom 1700 were men and 2317 women. According to the 2001 Ukrainian census, the village had a population of 3282. Nizhyn Raion
Nizhyn Raion ( uk, Ніжинський район) is a raion (district) of Chernihiv Oblast, northern Ukraine. Its administrative centre is located at Nizhyn. Population: On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Chernihiv Oblast was reduced to five, and the area of Nizhyn Raion was significantly expanded. Four abolished raions, Bakhmach, Bobrovytsia, Borzna, and Nosivka Raions, as well as the city of Nizhyn, which was previously incorporated as a city of oblast significance and did not belong to the raion, were merged into Nizhyn Raion. Ukrainian ( uk, украї́нська мо́ва, translit=ukrainska mova, label=native name, ) is an East Slavic language of the Indo-European language family. Vasyl Lopata
Vasyl Ivanovych Lopata ( uk, Лопата Василь Іванович; born in Nova Basan, Bobrovytsia Raion, Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, USSR, on April 28, 1941) is a Ukrainian artist and prose writer. He is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1971), National Union of Writers of Ukraine (2006). People's Painter of Ukraine (2001), laureate of Shevchenko National Prize (1993), Oles Honchar Literary Prize (2007), Lesya Ukrainka Literary and Art Prize (2008). In collaboration with Borys Mykolayovych Maximov (''Борис Миколайович Максимов''), he designed the first Ukrainian hryvnia. As an artist, he worked principally in engraving and painting, also creating posters and ex-libris, among other things. Lev Biryuk is a Ukrainian politician, People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 4th, 5th and 6th convocations of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. In 2011 he was awarded with Order of Merit, III class. Yurii Kosmych Hlushko ( uk, Ю́рій Косьмич Глушко́, known by the pseudonym ''Mova'' ( uk, Мова; 4 April 1882 – 28 October 1942), was a Ukrainian public and political figure, one of the organizers of Ukrainian national cultural existence in Green Ukraine (''Zelenyi Klyn''). Life Hlushko was born 4 April 1882 in the village of Nova Basan, Chernihiv Oblast. Hlushko graduated from the Railway Institute in Kyiv in 1899. During 1901–1903, he worked as a steamship engineer for Dobroflot steamships serving the Odesa-Vladivostok route. Between 1904 and 1907, he worked for the Chinese Eastern Railway in Manchuria. From 1907, he lived in Vladivostok, worked as a draftsman and technician.
