Nostalgia (Tresor Album)
''Nostalgia'' is the third studio album by Congolese-born singer TRESOR. It was released on 25 January 2019 through his label VII Recordings. The album features African artists AKA, Kwesta, Lokua Kanza, Beatenberg, Mafikizolo, The Soil, Sauti Sol and Msaki. The 13-track album won Best afro pop album at the 25th South African Music Awards in 2019 and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) on 26 September 2020. Background TRESOR referred to the album as his most personal project. Explaining his album: Nostalgia is a sonic trip into my childhood; I basically went back into the music era I grew up in, listening to the music that shaped who I am from the likes of Hugh Masekela, Papa Wemba and Chico Twala. Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki (born 24 April 1987), best known by his stage name TRESOR, is a Congolese-born singer, songwriter, music producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He gained prominence in 2015 after releasing his single "Mount Everest" from his debut album, ''VII''. His name "Tresor", when translated from French, means "treasure". Early life and career TRESOR was born on the 24th of April 1987 in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is one of eight siblings. Orphaned at the age of seventeen, he left his home in 2007 after completing high school. He listened to music from musicians such as Hugh Masekela, Papa Wemba and Miriam Makeba. 26th South African Music Awards
The 26th Annual South African Music Awards were held on 3–7 August 2020. Unlike previous years shows, the ceremony was broadcast as a five-night event, with the first four episodes being 30 minutes long, while the fifth one was a 45-minute grand finale. It was held virtually due to the effects of COVID-19 lockdowns, and for the first time, the award show was to be broadcast live on Multichoice's Mzansi Magic Channel (the award show was originally broadcast on SABC 1, but due to the channel's financial problems it was cancelled, then it was picked up by Multichoice). Sello "Chicco" Twala (born 5 June 1963) is a South African musician and producer who has collaborated with many well known artists in the music industry, including Nkosana Kodi and Brenda Fassie. He has created some of South Africa's hit songs. In the 1970s he played in soul bands including Umoja, Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse's Harari, and formed his own band, Image. Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba (14 June 1949 – 24 April 2016), known professionally as Papa Wemba (), was a Congolese singer and musician who played Congolese rumba, soukous, and ndombolo. Hugh Ramapolo Masekela (4 April 1939 – 23 January 2018) was a South African trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, singer and composer who was described as "the father of South African jazz". Masekela was known for his jazz compositions and for writing well-known anti-apartheid songs such as " Soweto Blues" and " Bring Him Back Home".
