Norway In The Eurovision Song Contest 1976
Norway was represented by Anne-Karine Strøm, with the song "Mata Hari (Anne-Karine Strøm song), Mata Hari", at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 3 April in The Hague. "Mata Hari" was chosen as the Norwegian entry at the Melodi Grand Prix on 7 February. This was a third Eurovision appearance in four contests for Strøm. Before Eurovision Melodi Grand Prix 1976 The Melodi Grand Prix 1976 was held at Centralteatret in Oslo, hosted by Jan Voigt. Five songs were presented in the final with each song sung twice by different singers, once with a small combo and once with a full orchestra which was conducted by Helge Hurum. Anne-Karine Strøm (born 15 October 1951) is a Norwegian singer, best known for having taken part in the Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest selection, Melodi Grand Prix, in six consecutive years between 1971 and 1976, winning on three occasions (twice as a soloist and once as a member of an ensemble) and representing Norway in the Eurovision Song Contests of 1973, 1974 and 1976. Gro Anita Schønn (28 January 1950 – 24 April 2001) was a Norwegian singer. Schønn was born in Drammen. She made her solo debut in 1967, and issued eight albums between 1970 and 1980. Among her song hits were ''En enkel sang om frihet'' from 1971, and ''Eviva España'' from 1973. Norway has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 60 times since making its debut in and has only been absent twice since then. In 1970, the country boycotted the contest over disagreements about the voting structure, and in 2002, they were relegated. Terje Rypdal
Terje Rypdal (born 23 August 1947) is a Norwegian guitarist and composer. He has been an important member in the Norwegian jazz community, and has also given show concerts with guitarists Ronni Le Tekrø and Mads Eriksen as "N3". Career Rypdal was born in Oslo, Norway, the son of a composer and orchestra leader. He studied classical piano and trumpet as a child, and then taught himself to play guitar as he entered his teens. Starting out as a Hank Marvin-influenced rock guitarist with The Vanguards, Rypdal turned towards jazz in 1968 and joined Jan Garbarek's group and later George Russell's sextet and orchestra. An important step towards international attention was his participation in the free jazz festival in Baden-Baden, Germany, in 1969, where he was part of a band led by Lester Bowie. Triztán Vindtorn (31 July 1942 – 4 March 2009), born Kjell Erik Larsen, was a Norwegian poet and performance artist from Drammen. He made his literary debut with the poetry collection ''Sentrifuge'' in 1970. His latest collections were ''Jeg kan høre din hånd synge'' (I can hear your hand sing, 2007), and ''Sirkus for usynlige elefanter'' (Circus for invisible elephants, 2008).
