Northmead is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Northmead is located 26 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta. Northmead is a hilly suburb with low to medium density houses, townhouses and apartment buildings, and a large light industrial area. It is located to the northeast of the junction of Darling Mills Creek and Toongabbie Creek, which combine to form the beginnings of the Parramatta River. History Traditional owners of the land are believed to be the Dharug peoples. With the British colonization of Parramatta, this area was originally part of the domain of Government House. Windsor Road (Sydney)
Windsor Road is a notable road in the Hills District of Sydney, linking Windsor and North Parramatta in Sydney's west. It is a constituent part of route A2. Route Windsor Road commences at the intersection of Bridge and Macquarie Streets in Windsor and heads in a southeasterly direction as a two-lane, single carriageway road, widening to a four-lane, dual-carriageway road at McGraths Hill. It continues through Rouse Hill, before turning off at the intersection with Old Windsor Road at Kellyville and narrowing back to a single carriageway road at Baulkham Hills, crossing under M2 Hills Motorway a short distance later. It continues in a southerly direction to cross over James Ruse Drive in Northmead, before eventually terminating at the intersection of North Rocks Road and Church Street in North Parramatta. Northmead European Rock Carvings
Northmead European Rock carvings is a heritage-listed rock engraving at 226 (rear) Windsor Road, Northmead, City of Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The carvings may be associated with activity on the early Hawkesbury or Windsor Roads. This is an area of very early settlement and this block of land was alienated before 1811. Very few early European carvings are known in New South Wales. Comparable examples are found at the Quarantine Station, North Head and Hartley Gaol. The fact that these carvings are not related to an institutional setting is unusual. The North-West T-way is a continuous series of bus-only lanes and bus roadways between Parramatta, Blacktown and Rouse Hill in Western Sydney. Opened in stages between March and November 2007, the T-way was the second bus rapid transit route to be built in Sydney after the Liverpool–Parramatta T-way.
