Nor Cal Red Hawks
The Nor Cal Red Hawks are a women's football team based in Redding, California. They are members of the Independent Women's Football League. They played in 2010 as an exhibition team and began play of their first regular season in 2011 in Sacramento. However, injuries postponed their 2011 season. There is one other women's football team in Redding, who are in the same league as the Red Hawks: the Redding Rage. It was announced in 2012 that the team would relocate to Redding for 2013. The Red Hawks will now play in the IWFL's Pacific West division, along with the California Quake The California Quake was a women's professional tackle football team based in Los Angeles County, California. Independent Women's Football League
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was the first Women's American football league established by women players for women players. The league was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Members of the original roster of the Austin Outlaws were the league's founders. Following the establishment of the league as a separate entity from the team, former outlaws players Laurie Frederick, Jaime Bailey and Sandra Plato became the original IWFL executive council. Redding, California
Redding is the economic and cultural capital of the Shasta Cascade region of Northern California and the county seat of Shasta County. Redding lies along the Sacramento River, north of Sacramento, and south of California's northern border with Oregon. Its population is 95,542 as of the 2022 census, up from 89,861 from the 2010 census. Etymology During the Gold Rush, the area that now comprises Redding was called Poverty Flats. In 1868 the first land agent for the Central Pacific Railroad, a former Sacramento politician named Benjamin Bernard Redding, bought property in Poverty Flats on behalf of the railroad so that it could build a northern terminus there. The Redding Rage was a professional women's football team based out of Redding, California, that were members of the Independent Women's Football League. They played their home games at various locations in the Redding area. The California Quake was a women's professional tackle football team based in Los Angeles County, California. The Quake played for 13 seasons in the Western Conference of the Independent Women's Football League. Home games were played at Carson High School. The 2008 season brought new ownership to the Quake; now owned by longtime veteran player, Catherine B. Vivo. During the California Quake vs New Mexico Menace game on May 24, 2008, kicker Sarah "Ollie" Oliver broke a women's tackle football record by successfully kicking a 44-yard field goal. Ventura Black Widows
The Ventura Black Widows, a women's tackle football Tier 3 team, was founded in 2008 by Ahmad Newton of Los Angeles, CA. Originally a member of the National Women’s Football Association (NWFA), they became independent when the league folded later that same year. Shortly after, an up-start league, the WFA, invited the Ventura Black Widows to join. Due to the Black Widows' small roster, the team decided to play 8-on-8. After two independent seasons, the Black Widows were invited to join the Women’s Spring Football League in 2010. During their tenure in the WSFL, the VBW won two Southwest Division titles: taking the first one in 2011 and the second in 2013.
