Sacramento ( or ; ; ) is the capital city of the U.S. state of California and the seat of Sacramento County. Located at the confluence of the Sacramento and American Rivers in Northern California's Sacramento Valley, Sacramento's 2020 population of 524,943 makes it the fourth-most populous city in Northern California, the sixth-most populous in the state, the ninth-most populous state capital, and the 35th most populous city in the United States. Sacramento is the seat of the California Legislature and the governor of California. Sacramento is also the cultural and economic core of the Greater Sacramento area, which at the 2020 census had a population of 2,680,831, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in California. The council holds regular meetings at Sacramento City Hall on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm, with exceptions for holidays and other special cases. Tower Bridge (Sacramento, California)
The Tower Bridge is a vertical lift bridge across the Sacramento River, linking West Sacramento in Yolo County to the west, with the capital of California, Sacramento, in Sacramento County to the east. Kevin Michael McCarty (born January 6, 1972) is an American politician who has served as Mayor of Sacramento since 2024. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2024, representing the 6th Assembly District, which encompasses a portion of the Sacramento metropolitan area and most of the city of Sacramento. McCarty was a member of the California Legislative Black Caucus.
