Farmers Manual
Farmers Manual is an electronic music and visual art group, founded in Vienna in the beginning of the 1990s. The core members of the collective are Mathias Gmachl, Stefan Possert, Oswald Berthold, Gert Brantner, and Nik Gaffney. Part of the very lively Viennese electronic music scene of the 1990s, Farmers Manual were successfully crossing the boundaries between electronic music, live visuals, experimental graphics, and web design for Zeta Industries. Their CDs, published through avant-garde labels such as Mego, Tray or OR, often contained multimedia content. Their most significant release might be ''RLA'' (which stands for "Recent Live Archive"), a DVD released on Mego in 2003, which contains the band's extensive backcatalogue of live concert recordings from 1995 to 2003, compressed in MP3 format - totalling 3 days and 20 hours of audio content and released under a Copyleft licence. Glitch (music)
Glitch is a genre of electronic music that emerged in the 1990s. It is distinguished by the deliberate use of glitch-based audio media and other sonic artifacts. The glitching sounds featured in glitch tracks usually come from audio recording device or digital electronics malfunctions, such as CD skipping, electric hum, digital or analog distortion, circuit bending, bit-rate reduction, hardware noise, software bugs, computer crashes, vinyl record hiss or scratches, and system errors. Sometimes devices that were already broken are used, and sometimes devices are broken expressly for this purpose. Mego (label)
Mego was an experimental electronic music independent record label based in Vienna, Austria. The label has been superseded by a new company, Editions Mego, which was set up both to keep Mego albums in print and to issue new albums, run by Peter Rehberg a.k.a. Pita. Impact and critical acclaim The label's efforts were awarded a distinction at the Ars Electronica 1999. Fsck (album)
''fsck'' is the second full-length release by Farmers Manual, published in August 1997 on Tray (a sister-label of Ash International). A 2nd edition was reprinted in 1999 on OR (another sister-label of Ash International). Album title The album title refers to a command of the Unix operating system, where stands for file system check – a command used by system administrators if there is believed to be a problem with the file system (the term's tongue-in-cheek use among the hacker subculture is referenced in the Jargon File). Nevertheless, some critics took the title as a misspelling. Reception ''Fsck'' was hailed as an "abstract genre abuse", and compared to acts as Pan Sonic, Merzbow or Photek. The album was included in the "top 50 albums of 1997" by British music magazine The Wire. AllMusic (previously known as All-Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. In 1984, Apple debuted the operating system that is now known as the "Classic" Mac OS with its release of the original Macintosh System Software.
