Farmers Manual
Farmers Manual is an electronic music and visual art group, founded in Vienna in the beginning of the 1990s. The core members of the collective are Mathias Gmachl, Stefan Possert, Oswald Berthold, Gert Brantner, and Nik Gaffney. Part of the very lively Viennese electronic music scene of the 1990s, Farmers Manual were successfully crossing the boundaries between electronic music, live visuals, experimental graphics, and web design for Zeta Industries. Their CDs, published through avant-garde labels such as Mego, Tray or OR, often contained multimedia content. Their most significant release might be ''RLA'' (which stands for "Recent Live Archive"), a DVD released on Mego in 2003, which contains the band's extensive backcatalogue of live concert recordings from 1995 to 2003, compressed in MP3 format - totalling 3 days and 20 hours of audio content and released under a Copyleft licence. Free Improvisation
Free improvisation or free music is improvised music without any rules beyond the logic or inclination of the musician(s) involved. The term can refer to both a technique (employed by any musician in any genre) and as a recognizable genre in its own right. "Explorers We" is a science fiction short story by American writer Philip K. Dick. First published in '' Fantasy and Science Fiction'' magazine, January 1959. "Explorers We" was reprinted as a limited edition booklet to commemorate Dick's appearance at the Second International Festival of Science Fiction at Metz, France, September 1977. It was written in 1958, one of only two short stories that Dick wrote in the seven years between 1956 and 1962. Plot summary In this story, some aliens come to Earth as perfect replicas of a group of astronauts who died during a mission to Mars. The astronauts seem to be utterly convinced they are humans and they do not understand why the FBI chases them after they have 'come back' to Earth. Fsck (album)
''fsck'' is the second full-length release by Farmers Manual, published in August 1997 on Tray (a sister-label of Ash International). A 2nd edition was reprinted in 1999 on OR (another sister-label of Ash International). Album title The album title refers to a command of the Unix operating system, where stands for file system check – a command used by system administrators if there is believed to be a problem with the file system (the term's tongue-in-cheek use among the hacker subculture is referenced in the Jargon File). Nevertheless, some critics took the title as a misspelling. Reception ''Fsck'' was hailed as an "abstract genre abuse", and compared to acts as Pan Sonic, Merzbow or Photek. The album was included in the "top 50 albums of 1997" by British music magazine The Wire.
