Nikolász Iliász
Nikolász Iliász (born 3 November 1991) is a Hungarian sabre fencer, team bronze medallist at the 2009 World Championships and silver team medallist at the 2013 European Championships. Career Iliász first tried different sports and took up fencing in 2002 at Vasas SC in Budapest on the suggestion of his grandmother, who had practiced it. His first coach was György Gerevich, son of seven-time Olympic champion Aladár Gerevich, who also trained Olympic champion Áron Szilágyi. In 2007 he joined the cadet national team, with which he won a gold medal at the Cadet European Championships in Novi Sad and a silver medal at the Cadet European Championships in Prag. The following year he earned an individual gold medal both at the Cadet and Junior European Championships, as well as a team gold and an individual bronze at the Junior World Championships in Acireale. Sabre (fencing)
The sabre (US English: ''saber'', both pronounced ) is one of the three disciplines of modern fencing. The sabre weapon is for thrusting and cutting with both the cutting edge and the back of the blade (unlike the other modern fencing weapons, the épée and foil, where a touch is scored only using the point of the blade). Áron Szilágyi (; born 14 January 1990) is a Hungarian right-handed sabre fencer. A five-time Olympian, Szilágyi is a three-time individual Olympic champion, 2021 team Olympic bronze medalist, and 2024 team Olympic silver medalist. Szilágyi competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2012 London Olympic Games, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. In Tokyo, Szilágyi became the only male fencer in history to win three individual Olympic gold medals. Szilágyi is also a 2018 team European champion, 2015 individual European champion, 2007 team world champion, and 2022 individual world champion. Gu Bon-gil (, or ; born 27 April 1989) is a South Korean right-handed sabre fencer. Gu is an eight-time team Asian champion, seven-time individual Asian champion, and three-time team world champion. A three-time Olympian, Gu is a three-time team Olympic champion. Early life A native of Daegu, Gu had played football all through elementary and middle school and went on to , which was the alma mater of his 2012 Olympics teammate Oh Eun-seok.
