Veniamin Reshetnikov
Veniamin Sergeyevich Reshetnikov (russian: Вениамин Сергеевич Решетников; born 28 July 1986) is a Russian left-handed sabre fencer. Reshetnikov is a two-time team European champion, two-time individual European champion, three-time team world champion, and 2013 individual world champion. Reshetnikov competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games, where he finished 17th in the individual men's sabre event. Early life Reshetnikov graduated from the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, then studied public administration at the Novosibirsk State Agrarian University. Career In the 2005–06 season Reshetnikov joined the junior national team, where he became friends with Nikolay Kovalev. He won with them a team gold medal in the 2006 Junior World championships at Taebaek City. European Fencing Championships
The European Fencing Championships is an annual top-level European fencing competition organized by the European Fencing Confederation. History The first competition bearing the name of "European Fencing Championships" was held in Paris in 1921. The International Fencing Federation (FIE) comprised only European federations at the time, with the exception of the United States. In 1936, on the 25th anniversary of the FIE and at the request of the Italian federation, the FIE congress decided to open the European Championships to all countries and granted retroactive recognition of the European Championships as World Championships. After 1937 the FIE focused on the organisation of the World Fencing Championships. Demand for European Championships appeared at the 1979 congress, but it was rejected on the ground that they would either belittle the World Championships or offer a poor fencing level. Vincent Anstett
Vincent Anstett (born 26 July 1982) is a French sabre fencer. Anstett's greatest accomplishment is winning the gold medal in the sabre team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating Ukraine in the final. He accomplished this with his teammates Nicolas Lopez, Julien Pillet and Boris Sanson. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Anstett was a substitute for the same teammates that Anstett won the 2006 World Fencing Championships with, Nicolas Lopez, Julien Pillet and Boris Sanson, defeating the US in the final. Nikolay Kovalev (fencer)
Nikolay Anatolyevich Kovalev (russian: Николай Анатольевич Ковалёв; born 28 October 1986) is a Russian sabre fencer. He won a bronze medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and a gold medal in the 2014 World Championships in Kazan. He is three-times World team champion (2010, 2011 and 2013) and twice European team champion (2007 and 2012). He is now a coach in California in the United States. Career Kovalev became European Junior champion in 2002 at Conegliano. He won the silver medal in the 2005 Junior World Championships at Linz, then a bronze medal in the 2006 Junior World Championships at Taebaek City. Fencing
Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. Sabre
A sabre (French: �sabʁ or saber in American English) is a type of backsword with a curved blade associated with the light cavalry of the early modern and Napoleonic periods. Originally associated with Central European cavalry such as the hussars, the sabre became widespread in Western Europe during the Thirty Years' War. Lighter sabres also became popular with infantry of the early 17th century. In the 19th century, models with less curving blades became common and were also used by heavy cavalry. The military sabre was used as a duelling weapon in academic fencing in the 19th century, giving rise to a discipline of modern sabre fencing (introduced in the 1896 Summer Olympics) loosely based on the characteristics of the historical weapon in that it allows for cuts as well as thrusts.
