Nightlord
Nightlord is a British thrash metal band, based in London, England. In 2011, following the band's reformation, Powerplay Magazine proclaimed, "The future is looking very good indeed for this now legendary band". History Formation Friends Jamie Thorne and Ferenc Collins began discussing the idea of a band when Collins moved to London in late 1988. Thorne knew guitarist James Mackenzie and drummer Neil Wiseman, and invited them all to a jam session in May 1989. After this initial session, they decided that this combination would work, and they began writing songs with regular rehearsals for the next six months. Nightlord's first show was at the Jolly Gardeners pub in Isleworth on 6 December 1989. Once word had spread about Nightlord, their second show headlining the then well-renowned Brentford Red Lion the following month was a total sell out. Thrash Metal
Thrash metal (or simply thrash) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by its overall aggression and often fast tempo.Kahn-Harris, Keith, ''Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge'', pp. 2–3, 9. Oxford: Berg, 2007, . The songs usually use fast percussive beats and low-register guitar riffs, overlaid with shredding-style lead guitar work. The lyrical subject matter often includes criticism of The Establishment and concern over environmental destruction, and at times shares a disdain for Christian dogma with that of black metal. The language is typically direct and denunciatory, an approach borrowed from hardcore punk. The genre emerged in the early 1980s as musicians began fusing the double bass drumming and complex guitar stylings of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) with the speed and aggression of hardcore punk. Marquee Club
The Marquee Club was a music venue first located at 165 Oxford Street in London, when it opened in 1958 with a range of jazz and skiffle acts. Its most famous period was from 1964 to 1988 at 90 Wardour Street in Soho, and it finally closed when at 105 Charing Cross Road in 1996, although the name has been revived unsuccessfully three times in the 21st century. It was a small and relatively cheap club, located in the heart of the music industry in London's West End, and used to launch the careers of generations of rock acts. It was a key venue for early performances by bands who were to achieve worldwide fame in the 1960s and remained a venue for young bands in the following decades. Onslaught are a British thrash metal band from Bristol, England, active from 1982 to 1991 and again since 2005. The band initially drew influences from US and British hardcore punk bands such as Discharge and The Exploited, as well as the new wave of British heavy metal, and eventually adopted a straightforward thrash metal sound.
