Nevermore (band)
Nevermore is an American heavy metal band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1992. The band was formed after three of its members — vocalist Warrel Dane, bassist Jim Sheppard and guitarist Jeff Loomis — ended their previous band Sanctuary, and had several drummers before hiring Van Williams in 1994. Nevermore has experienced numerous lineup changes, and as of 2024, Loomis is the only remaining original member. The band became a five-piece in 1996, when they added Pat O'Brien as their second guitarist. After recording their second album '' The Politics of Ecstasy'' with O'Brien, the band replaced him with Tim Calvert, who played on the follow-up album '' Dreaming Neon Black'' (1999) and left a year after its release. With their next two albums '' Dead Heart in a Dead World'' (2000) and '' Enemies of Reality'' (2003), Nevermore reverted to a four-piece. Jeff Loomis
Jeff Loomis (born September 14, 1971) is an American musician, best known for his role as lead guitarist in the progressive metal band Nevermore during its existence from 1991 to 2011, as well as brief tenures in its precursor, Sanctuary (band), Sanctuary. In 2014, he joined Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy, and in 2021 he joined Alcatrazz, Graham Bonnet's Alcatrazz as well. He left Arch Enemy in 2023. As a solo artist he has released two albums and one EP. Biography Early days Loomis got his first instrument at nine or ten years old but did not start practicing seriously until around the age of 15. Dreaming Neon Black
''Dreaming Neon Black'' is the third studio album released by American heavy metal band Nevermore, and was released through Century Media in 1999. Unlike its predecessor, '' The Politics of Ecstasy'', ''Dreaming Neon Black'' contains many slower, emotional songs. ''Dreaming Neon Black'' is a concept album; according to Nevermore's lead singer, Warrel Dane, "it's a very simple story about a man who slowly goes insane after losing a woman that he was very close to. Progressive levels of insanity are expressed in the songs, he goes through phases of denial and self-blame, blaming God, then denouncing God. The ending is a little...tragic, a little depressing. ''In Memory'' is an EP by American heavy metal band Nevermore. It was recorded in April and May 1996 and released on July 23, 1996. It features a Bauhaus medley. It was re-issued in 2006 with 5 bonus tracks, which are all demos of songs from the next full-length album, '' The Politics of Ecstasy''. ''Matricide'' and ''The Sorrowed Man'' had both been previously recorded under the titles ''Mother Earth'' and ''Forever'', respectively, in a 1990 demo by Sanctuary, as well as with their current titles in the 1992 Nevermore demo entitled ''Utopia''. It was their first release to feature Pat O'Brien on rhythm guitars and also the first in which Van Williams played all drum tracks. Death was an American death metal band formed in Altamonte Springs, Florida, in 1983 by guitarist Chuck Schuldiner (who later became the band's sole vocalist), drummer/vocalist Kam Lee and guitarist Rick Rozz. Formed out of what would become the Florida death metal scene, Death is considered to be a pioneering band in death metal. The band's 1987 debut album, '' Scream Bloody Gore'', has been widely regarded as one of the first death metal records, alongside the first records from Possessed and Necrophagia. Death had a revolving lineup, with Schuldiner, aside from a European tour, being the sole consistent member. Blind Guardian
Blind Guardian is a German power metal band formed in 1984 in Krefeld, West Germany. They are often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres. Nine musicians have been part of the band's lineup throughout its history, which currently includes singer Hansi Kürsch, guitarists André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen, and, since 2005, drummer Frederik Ehmke. ''Nevermore'' is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Nevermore, released on February 14, 1995, by Century Media Records. It was singer Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard's first release after disbanding their previous band, Sanctuary, in 1992. Having recruited drummer Van Williams and former Sanctuary touring guitarist Jeff Loomis, they formed the band Nevermore and began anew. This was Nevermore's first and only album to feature original drummer Mark Arrington. Despite not being credited as the drummer on the album, he did play on half of the tracks. A music video was produced for the song "What Tomorrow Knows". It would also be the sole track from ''Nevermore'' to be featured on '' Manifesto of Nevermore'', the band's 2009 greatest hits compilation.
