Netball At The 2006 Commonwealth Games
The Netball at the 2006 Commonwealth Games was the third Commonwealth Games tournament. The preliminary matches were held at the State Netball and Hockey Centre with the finals being held at the multi-purpose Melbourne Park in the inner city. Netball was among the most popular sports with viewers at this Games, with most tickets selling out in the initial ballot, and no more being available until a second release in the week before the Games - a rare event in a competition where many tickets remained unsold in the final week before the start of competition. Matelita Shaw
Tui Manu'a Matelita, born Margaret Young, and also known as Makelita, Matelika or Lika (31 December 1872 – 29 October 1895) was the Tui Manu'a (paramount chief or queen) of Manu'a, a group of islands in the eastern part of the Samoan Islands (present day American Samoa), from 1891 to 1895. During her tenure, she served largely a ceremonial role at her residence on Ta'ū where she received British writer Robert Louis Stevenson. Matelita never married, because she would not marry any of the eligible native chieftains and no other men were regarded as having the proper rank to marry her. Peace Chawinga
Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa born Peace Chawinga (born c.1974) is a Malawian netball player and coach. She was a stalwart member of the Malawi national netball team for over twenty years and she became the national coach on more than one occasion. Life Chawinga was born in about 1974. She attended and played netball for St Pius Girls Primary School. Because she was interested in netball, she would watch older players at Blantyre Youth Centre to learn their tricks. While still at school she was chosen to play for the "Shelter Nets" team. In 1990, when she was sixteen and playing for the Admarc Tigresses, she was first included as a member of "The Queens" who are the Malawi national netball team by the coach, Grace Sithole. Mary Waya
Mary Waya (born 25 May 1968) is a Malawian netball player and coach. Waya started playing international-level netball at age 14, and has played in more than Cap_(sport)#Netball, 200 representative matches for Malawi national netball team, Malawi. During that time she has competed in two World Netball Championships (1995 and 2007), three Commonwealth Games (1998, 2006 and 2010), and two World Netball Series (2009 and 2010). Linda Magombo-Munthali is a Malawian netball player who has played for the national team including at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi Career As a netball player She was chosen to join the national team while she was studying Agricultural Economics. Abby Marie Sargent (née Teare; born 25 May 1977 in Melbourne, Australia) is a retired Australian netball player. Sargent was also a member of the England national team that played in the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games. Louisa Brownfield (born 14 April 1984), also known as Louisa Watson, is a former England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 World Netball Championships. Rachel Margaret Dunn (born 14 November 1982) is an English former international netball player who was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and who has over 250 Netball Super League appearances.
