Nelonen (TV Channel)
is a Finnish commercial television channel. It started out as Helsinki's local television channel PTV in 1990 on the HTV cable network (now part of DNA), and changed its name first to PTV4. On June 1, 1997, the channel expanded to national coverage and changed its name to Nelonen, the Finnish name of the number four. Nelonen is mostly owned by Sanoma Corporation, which owns the ''Helsingin Sanomat'' and ''Ilta-Sanomat'' newspapers. Its largest owner was Aatos Erkko. Much of its programming is imported Australian, American, British, and European programs with Finnish captions. Its main market is the 25-44 demographic. Standard-definition television (SDTV; also standard definition or SD) is a television system that uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. ''Standard'' refers to offering a similar resolution to the analog broadcast systems used when it was introduced. is the Finnish version of '' The Best Singers'' series broadcast on Finnish Nelonen commercial television channel fashioned on the successful Dutch series ''De beste zangers van Nederland''. Each day, one artist would be chosen, and the remaining artists would perform covers of their songs and would be assessed by the original artist. The last day would be dedicated to duets of the most popular performances. The title of the Finnish series is inspired by the 1973 song ''Vain elämää'' ("It's only life") by Irwin Goodman. ''The Voice of Finland'' is a Finnish reality singing competition and local version of '' The Voice'' first broadcast as ''The Voice of Holland''. The series premiered on Nelonen on 30 December 2011 and the first season concluded in April 2012. A second season started on 4 January 2013 and concluded on 26 April 2013. The series was further renewed for a third season, which premiered on 3 January 2014. One of the important premises of the show is the quality of the singing talent. Four coaches, themselves popular performing artists, train the talents in their group and occasionally perform with them. Talents are selected in blind auditions, where the coaches cannot see, but only hear the auditioner. The idea behind the programme is to search for the most talented and promising entertainment. Talent contest took off for the first time in Finland at the end of September 2007. The programme was originally hosted by Susanna Laine and Martin Coulter and had contemporary magazine editor Katja Ståhl, television presenter and film director Timo Koivusalo, as well as the Finnish National Ballet dancer and choreographer Sami Saikkonen as judges.
