Necrophagia ( ) was an American death metal band formed in Wellsville, Ohio in 1983. The band is credited as one of the inaugural groups within the death metal genre, along with Possessed and Death. History Early years (1983–1997) Necrophagia was formed by Frank "Killjoy" Pucci in 1983. The band name is derived from the act of cannibalizing, or eating a corpse. The word is a combination of the Greek words ' (corpse), and ' (to eat). Necrophagia was a popular group in the underground extreme metal "tape trading" scene. Their first full-length album, '' Season of the Dead'', was recorded and released in 1987. The band split up sometime after the album's release. In 1990, an album named ''Ready for Death'' (recorded in 1986) was bootlegged by the label Embalming Records, and was given an official release of 500 on clear green vinyl when New Renaissance came to an agreement with Embalming Records. Killjoy DeSade (born Frank Anthony Pucci; November 4, 1969 – March 18, 2018) was an American musician, best known as the lead vocalist for the death metal band Necrophagia. Career Pucci founded Necrophagia in 1983, which first dissolved in 1990. Shortly after Necrophagia's dissolution, he formed his solo band and released ''Compelled by Fear'' in 1990. Pucci reformed Necrophagia in 1997 with Phil Anselmo, and performed with the band until his demise. Pucci was the only original member of Necrophagia until the band's end. He was the vocalist for the death metal/thrash metal band Cabal in 1990. Pucci participated in several side projects with Phil Anselmo, including Viking Crown and Eibon. He was the vocalist for the death metal band The Ravenous, which included Nuclear Assault bassist Dan Lilker and Death drummer Chris Reifert. Gorelord
Gorelord is a Norwegian death metal band which uses horror movie-like themes in its music. It is the one man side project of Frediablo of the band Necrophagia. Contrary to some reports, Gorelord is based in Oslo, Norway. In September 2005 Frediablo issued a statement saying he was quitting Necrophagia among all of his music projects and bands he was involved in, except for Grimfist. He was also a member of Wurdulak, Hemnur, Soul Forsaken, Ave Sathanas, Blodkrig, Deride and was a session member in Svartpest. History Gorelord released the album ''Force Fed on Human Flesh'' in 2001. Frediablo performed vocals, guitar and bass, whilst Jehmod played drums. Death was an American death metal band formed in Altamonte Springs, Florida, in 1983 by guitarist Chuck Schuldiner (who later became the band's sole vocalist), drummer/vocalist Kam Lee and guitarist Rick Rozz. Formed out of what would become the Florida death metal scene, Death is considered to be a pioneering band in death metal. The band's 1987 debut album, '' Scream Bloody Gore'', has been widely regarded as one of the first death metal records, alongside the first records from Possessed and Necrophagia. Death had a revolving lineup, with Schuldiner, aside from a European tour, being the sole consistent member. Wellsville is a village in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,113 at the 2020 census. In its heyday, notable industries in Wellsville included shipping via the Ohio River and Pennsylvania Railroad, as well as pottery and ceramics manufacturing. History Early history and establishment In 1770, George Washington with his friend and personal surveyor, William Crawford, embarked on a journey down the Ohio River from Pittsburgh for the purpose of viewing lands to be apportioned among soldiers who had served in the French and Indian War. They are reported to have surveyed the Wellsville area, just north of Yellow Creek in 1770, and it was noted in his journal that it was good bottom land.
