Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt is a joint Australian and United States naval communication station located on the north-west coast of Australia, north of the town of Exmouth, Western Australia. The station is operated and maintained by the Australian Department of Defence on behalf of Australia and the United States and provides very low frequency (VLF) radio transmission to United States Navy, Royal Australian Navy and allied ships and submarines in the western Pacific Ocean and eastern Indian Ocean. The frequency is 19.8 kHz. With a transmission power of 1 megawatt, it is the most powerful transmission station in the Southern Hemisphere. The town of Exmouth was built at the same time as the communications station to provide support to the base and to house dependent families of US Navy personnel. Space Surveillance Telescope
The Space Surveillance Telescope (SST) is a military telescope for detecting, tracking and cataloguing satellites, near-Earth objects and space debris. SST achieved first light in 2011 at the White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, United States. In 2017, SST was dismantled and moved to the Harold E. Holt Naval Communication Station, Exmouth, Western Australia. From there it will observe the Southern Celestial Hemisphere and collect data for the US Space Surveillance Network. Warren John Fahey AM (born 3 January 1946) is an Australian folklore collector, cultural historian, author, actor, broadcaster, record and concert producer, visual artist, songwriter, and performer of Australian traditional and related historical music. Eureka Flag
The Eureka Flag was flown at the Battle of the Eureka Stockade, which took place on 3 December 1854 at Ballarat in Victoria, Australia. It was the culmination of the 1851–1854 Eureka Rebellion on the Victorian goldfields, where miners protested against the cost of mining permits and the officious way the colonial authorities enforced the system along with other grievances. An estimated crowd of over 10,000 demonstrators swore allegiance to the flag as a symbol of defiance at Bakery Hill on 29 November 1854.
