National Scout Association Of Eritrea
The National Scout Association of Eritrea is the national Scouting organization of Eritrea. Scouting in Eritrea shares a common history with that of Ethiopia, where Scouting was founded in 1950. Scouting in Eritrea has become active again after many years of government banning, and is in its infancy. Political unrest and financial considerations have slowed growth. Scouts have not been seen at regional Scout events and may just operate on a local level. Background The creation and operation of Eritrean Scout groups is supported by the Italian Scouting organization Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani. Eritrea is one of 29 countries where Scouting exists but is not yet a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and no organization was ever recognized by WOSM during the nation's Scouting history. Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth Social movement, movement employing the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, Backpacking (wilderness), backpacking, and sports. Eritrea ( ; ti, ኤርትራ, Ertra, ; ar, إرتريا, ʾIritriyā), officially the State of Eritrea, is a country in the Horn of Africa region of Eastern Africa, with its capital and largest city at Asmara. The Ethiopia Scout Association ('' Amharic:''የኢትዮጵያ እስካውት ማህበር) is the national Scouting association of Ethiopia. The Scout movement was first introduced in Ethiopia around 1919, and had opened a school in Addis Ababa by 1934. However, the association was forced to end its activities due to the Second Italo-Abyssinian War of 1935-1936. Scouting was revived in Ethiopia in 1948, when Scout activities gained a foothold in the schools of Ethiopia. Ethiopia was recognized as a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1969. WOSM-Africa Region
The Africa Scout Region is the divisional office of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with satellite offices in Cape Town, South Africa, and Dakar, Senegal. The Africa Region services Scouting in Sub-Saharan Africa and neighboring islands that are recognized members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Currently, the region has 39 member National Scout Associations/Organizations and 11 potential members. There are about one million registered Scouts in Africa, though it is suspected that there are about twice that number in the region. The ''Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani'' ( en, Association of Italian Catholic Guides and Scouts, italic=yes, link=yes, AGESCI) is a Catholic Scouting and Guiding association in Italy. It is coeducational and has 183,925 members, including 33,268 leaders (of whom 2,095 priests), 1,933 local groups and 6,287 units, making it the country's largest Scout association. World Organization Of The Scout Movement
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 173 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have around 43 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The WOSM's current stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society". The flag of Eritrea ( ti, ሃገራዊት ባንዴራ ኤርትራ, ar, علم إريتريا الوطني), is the national flag of Eritrea. It was adopted on December 5th, 1995. The flag combines the basic layout and colours from the flag of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front with an emblem of a wreath and an upright olive-branch derived from the 1952–1962 flag. The green colour in the flag stands for the agriculture and livestock of the country, the blue represents the bounty of the sea, and the red stands for the blood shed in the struggle for Eritrean independence, with the 30 leaves in the wreath representing the thirty years spent in the struggle.
