National Hot Rod Reunion
The National Hot Rod Reunion is a gathering of nostalgia drag racers, street rodders and automotive enthusiasts based on the California Hot Rod Reunion. The first four years of the National Hot Rod Reunion were held at Beech Bend Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The event has been held in Ohio, but has returned to Bowling Green where the event has been established as the main site since 2008. Organization The event is organized by and benefits the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, a non-profit organization affiliated with the National Hot Rod Association. It includes nostalgia drag race events, a parade of street rods, vendors and a swap meet. California Hot Rod Reunion
California Hot Rod Reunion is a gathering of drag racers, hot rod enthusiasts and street rodders held in Bakersfield, California. The event was created by Steve Gibbs, vice-president of the National Hot Rod Association, in October 1992, as a one-time event to gather some of the old drag racers together. It has since become an annual event in early October at Auto Club Famoso Raceway outside Bakersfield. The reunion has also spawned the National Hot Rod Reunion, held each year. Honorees are named at each year's reunion. The Honorees are pioneers in the sport of drag racing and hot rodding. The National Hot Rod Association was created in 1951 and has often organized several events related to hot rodding with some of these events being annual events. Beech Bend Park
Beech Bend is an amusement park, campground and automobile race track located in Warren County, Kentucky, Warren County, in the U.S. state of Kentucky, just outside the limits of the city of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Bowling Green. History The park takes its name from a bend in Barren River where stands of beech trees are scattered throughout the area. The area was used for picnics as early as the 1880s. Charles Garvin purchased the park property in the early 1940s, adding amusements both rides and recreational activities over the years. The first ride was a pony ride, followed by a roller skating rink, dance hall, bowling center and swimming pool. Mechanics arrive Shortly after World War II, Garvin added mechanical rides to Beech Bend Park, beginning with a Ferris wheel purchased from the Century of Progress, Chicago World's Fair. Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum
The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum houses a collection of memorabilia, automobiles, and motorcycles related to the sport of hot-rodding. It is located on the edge of the Los Angeles County Fairplex. History The museum was created by a group of long-time NHRA staff members and led by founder Wally Parks, for whom the museum was renamed on Wally Parks' ninetieth birthday. The presenting sponsor of the museum is theAutomobile Club of Southern California. Steve Gibbs, now a retired vice-president of NHRA, led the team that reconditioned a WPA-constructed building on the grounds of the Fairplex to house the museum, which opened to the public in 1998. National Hot Rod Association
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is a drag racing governing body, which sets rules in drag racing and hosts events all over the United States and Canada. With over 40,000 drivers in its rosters, the NHRA claims to be the largest motorsports sanctioning body in the world. The association was founded by Wally Parks in 1951 in California to provide a governing body to organize and promote the sport of drag racing. NHRA's first Nationals was held in 1955, in Great Bend, Kansas. The NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, the national event series which comprises 24 races each year, is the premier series in drag racing that brings together the best drag racers from across North America and the world. National Trail Raceway
National Trail Raceway is a quarter-mile dragstrip located between Hebron and Kirkersville, Ohio, USA, off of U.S. Route 40. The race track is located about 30 minutes east of Columbus, Ohio. It is known to local residents as 'National Trails'. History Clark Rader, Sr., along with sons Ben and Clark, Jr., broke ground on the facility in 1963, and completed the construction in 1964. At the time, United States Route 40 was known as the National Road and/or the National Trail, which is why they called it National Trail Raceway. It was the fifth largest racing facility of its kind in the United States at the time. The NHRA's national event known as the Springnationals bounced around among three different sites from 1965-1971. Wally Parks, founder and head of the NHRA at the time, decided to move the Springnationals to National Trail Raceway in 1972, based on the popularity of drag racing in central Ohio.
