Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum
The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum houses a collection of memorabilia, automobiles, and motorcycles related to the sport of hot-rodding. It is located on the edge of the Los Angeles County Fairplex. History The museum was created by a group of long-time NHRA staff members and led by founder Wally Parks, for whom the museum was renamed on Wally Parks' ninetieth birthday. The presenting sponsor of the museum is theAutomobile Club of Southern California. Steve Gibbs, now a retired vice-president of NHRA, led the team that reconditioned a WPA-constructed building on the grounds of the Fairplex to house the museum, which opened to the public in 1998. Famoso Raceway
The Famoso Bakersfield Raceway dragstrip is located in McFarland, California just north of Bakersfield, California, and is known historically as the home to the annual March Meet, also known as the U.S. Fuel and Gas Championships. The strip, located on Famoso Road between Highway 99 and Highway 65 east of the Highway 99 and Highway 46 interchange, was originally built in World War II as an Poso Auxiliary Field training base for the nearby Army Air Corps training base at Shafter's Minter Field. After World War II, the Army abandoned the field. It was in the 1950s that an aspiring group of drag racing pioneers from the Bakersfield area, the Bakersfield Smokers, purchased the west of strip and made the necessary adjustments to allow for drag racing. California Hot Rod Reunion
California Hot Rod Reunion is a gathering of drag racers, hot rod enthusiasts and street rodders held in Bakersfield, California. The event was created by Steve Gibbs, vice-president of the National Hot Rod Association, in October 1992, as a one-time event to gather some of the old drag racers together. It has since become an annual event in early October at Auto Club Famoso Raceway outside Bakersfield. The reunion has also spawned the National Hot Rod Reunion, held each year. Honorees are named at each year's reunion. The Honorees are pioneers in the sport of drag racing and hot rodding. Beech Bend Park
Beech Bend is an amusement park, campground and automobile race track located in Warren County, Kentucky, Warren County, in the U.S. state of Kentucky, just outside the limits of the city of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Bowling Green. History The park takes its name from a bend in Barren River where stands of beech trees are scattered throughout the area. The area was used for picnics as early as the 1880s.
