Narwietooma Station
Narwietooma Station, most commonly known as Narwietooma, is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is on the traditional lands of the Western Arrernte and Anmatyerr people who are the recognised Native Title holders of large sections of land that make up the station. It is a part of the Local Government Area of the MacDonnell Region Council. Property It is situated about north of Hermannsburg and west of Alice Springs, and is bordered by the West MacDonnell National Park close to Ormiston Gorge. Narwietooma is surrounded by other leases including Glen Helen Station to the south west, Derwent Station to the west, Napperby Station to the north and Amburla to the east, and the West MacDonnell National Park to the south. Pastoral Lease
A pastoral lease, sometimes called a pastoral run, is an arrangement used in both Australia and New Zealand where government-owned Crown land is leased out to graziers for the purpose of livestock grazing on rangelands. Australia Pastoral leases exist in both Australian commonwealth law and state jurisdictions. They do not give all the rights that attach to freehold land: there are usually conditions which include a time period and the type of activity permitted. According to Austrade, such leases cover about 44% of mainland Australia (), mostly in arid and semi-arid regions and the tropical savannahs. Ambalindum
Ambalindum is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Alice Springs region of the Northern Territory. The property occupies an area of and in 2013 was stocked with 5,000 Santa Gertrudis-cross-cattle. The ephemeral Hale River runs through the property. Gold was discovered in the area in 1887 with the first cattle and sheep stations settled in the early 1900s. Ambalindum was initially settled by George Cavanagh. In 2017 the owners, Tim and Emily Edmunds, sold their Hale River Pastoral Company including the Ambalindum and Numery leases to a Canadian Pension Fund for over 50 million. Connellan Airways
Connellan Airways (later Connair) was an airline headquartered in Alice Springs, Australia. It operated scheduled flights as well other air transport services throughout the Northern Territory from 1939 to 1980. History The company was founded in 1939 as Survey & Inland Transport by Edward Connellan, an aviation pioneer. In 1938, Connellan had conducted two aerial surveys of the Northern Territory, and after discussion with John McEwen, the then responsible Federal Minister, undertook a fortnightly mail run between Alice Springs and Wyndham, Western Australia. He also signed a contract with the Royal Flying Doctor Service. In the midst of World War II, Connellan consolidated his air services, which had grown viable and included more routes, and registered Connellan Airways on 23 July 1943. Edward Connellan
Edward John ("EJ" or "Eddie") Connellan AO, CBE (24 June 1912 – 26 December 1983) was an Australian aviator who founded Connellan Airways and was a pioneer of aviation in the Northern Territory. Early life Connellan was born on 24 June 1912 at Donald in western Victoria, the eldest of seven children to his parents Thomas and Lucy Connellan. At Donald the family owned farming and grazing property. Connellan's station life continued when the family moved to the Riverina district of New South Wales. From 1927 to 1929 he boarded at Xavier College in Melbourne to complete his secondary education. After school he became a teacher with the Victorian Education Department, but resigned in July 1933 to go into business. Flying became a passion and he gained his private pilot's licence on 8 July 1936.
