Naomi Kilekwa
Naomi Kilekwa Phiri (born 5 October 1984) is a Malawian politician. She is a member of Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus and she serves at the National Assembly of Malawi representing Mulanje South East. Life Kilekwa is a member of the National Assembly of Malawi for Mulanje South East. Her term began on 20 May 2014. She is a member of Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus and she has sat on the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee. In 2016 she donated money to support bee-keeping in her constituency. She wanted to support the environment and in particular trees. 71 bee hives were donated in Mbozi for the use of ten bee keeping clubs. Kilekwa was elected again in 2019 when no party had a majority and the hung parliament may have led to slow decisions. Malawi
Malawi, officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in Southeastern Africa. It is bordered by Zambia to the west, Tanzania to the north and northeast, and Mozambique to the east, south, and southwest. Malawi spans over and has an estimated population of 21,240,689 (as of 2024). Victoria Kingstone (politician)
Victoria Kingstone became a Malawian MP for central Mangochi in southern Malawi in 2019. In 2021 she also became a member of the Pan-African Parliament and later Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament Women’s Caucus. She was re-elected for Mangothi in 2022. Life Kingstone was a member of the Democratic Progressive Party and a strong supporter of President Arthur Peter Mutharika. In 2019 she was the elected MP for the constituency of Mangothi Central and Francesca Masamba became the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member for the Mangothi East constituency. There was sume question over the primaries vote but Kingstone was chosen over Vincent Makda and the Minister of Labour, Grace Chiumia, accepted that there was due process. Mary Navicha
Mary Thom Navicha is a Malawian politician who became the leader of the Democratic Progressive Party and the leader of the opposition. She is the first woman to be appointed as Leader of Opposition in the Malawi. Life Navicha became the member of parliament in Malawi's National Assembly for the Thyolo Thava constituency, as a member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Navicha served as the Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare in 2019. She praised the women of Blantyre when they peacefully showed their support for Jane Ansah. Navicha was the DPP's Director of Women and a member of the cross party Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus. She became the Deputy Whip of the DPP but later resigned. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera (born 5 April 1955) is a Malawian politician and theologian who has served as President of Malawi since June 2020. He has served as the leader of the Malawi Congress Party since 2013. He was president of the Malawi Assemblies of God from 1989 to 2013. Previously, Chakwera was the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Malawi, National Assembly following 2019 Malawian general election, highly controversial elections held on 21 May 2019 which were overturned by the Constitutional Court. National Assembly Of Malawi
The National Assembly of Malawi is the supreme legislative body of the nation. It is situated on Capital Hill, Lilongwe along Presidential Way. The National Assembly alone possesses legislative supremacy and thereby ultimate power over all other political bodies in Malawi. At its head is the Speaker of the House who is elected by his or her peers. Since June 19, 2019, the Speaker is Catherine Gotani Hara. The 1994 Constitution provided for a Senate, but Parliament repealed it. Malawi therefore has a unicameral legislature in practice. The National Assembly has 193 members of Parliament (MPs) who are directly elected in single-member constituencies using the simple majority (or first-past-the-post) system and serve five-year terms.
