Nagpur (; ISO 15919, ISO: ''Nāgapura'') is the second capital and third-largest city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is called the heart of India because of its central geographical location. Nagpur Metro is a rapid transit system for the city of Nagpur, located in the state of Maharashtra, India. The system consists of 2 colour-coded lines serving 37 stations, with a total length of 38.2 kilometres (23.7 mi). It is the List of metro systems, 13th Metro system in India to be operational. It is also being touted as the greenest metro rail in India. Deekshabhoomi, also written as Deeksha Bhoomi, is a sacred monument of Navayana Buddhism located in Nagpur city in the state of Maharashtra in India; where B. R. Ambedkar with approximately of his followers, mainly Dalits, embraced Buddhism on Ashoka Vijaya Dashami on 14 October 1956. Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) () is an urban development authority with the task of developing new areas within the city limits of Nagpur, India and maintaining existing city infrastructure. This trust works along with Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) which is an elected body of city representatives (Corporation). NIT itself is not a democratically elected civic body and has members appointed in it from various levels like Government of Maharashtra, NMC and other representatives of Nagpur. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is the municipal body administering Nagpur, in Maharashtra state in Central India. History The Municipal Council of Nagpur was established in 1864 to govern city encompassing 15.5 km2 and a population was 82,000 residents. Post-independence, the council was upgraded to a Municipal Corporation in March 1951. The first development plan of the city was prepared in 1953. Zero Mile Stone (Nagpur)
Zero Mile Stone (ISO: ''Śūnya Mailācā Dagaḍa'') is a monument built by the British during the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India in 1907 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The Zero Mile Stone consists of a pillar made up of sandstone and another small stone representing the GTS Standard Bench Mark, and four stucco horses that were added later. The height of the top of the pillar is above mean sea level. In 2008, The Times of India undertook to maintain the monument for the next 5 years. Vidhan Bhavan, Nagpur is the building in the Civil lines locality of Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra, a state of India, where the winter session of Maharashtra Legislature is held. The foundation stone of the building was laid in 1912. It was constructed by the then British command to house the administration of the Central Provinces and Berar, of which Nagpur was the capital. Later, in 1952, the CP & Berar was divided into the large central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh which included the current Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha regions. Bakht Buland Shah
Bakht Buland Shah (?–1706; born Bhagtu ) was a ruler of the Rajgond dynasty. He added to his kingdom the territories of Chanda and Mandla, and portions of Nagpur, Balaghat, Seoni, Bhandara and the adjoining Rajput kingdom of Kherla/Khedla. The present districts of Chhindwara and Betul in India also fell under his control. A great warrior, he went on to conquer Pauni, Dongartal, Sivni, and Katangi. Ascension to the throne Bakht Buland's initial name was Bhagtu. After his father Kok Shah's death, a war of succession broke out. He was the younger son of Gorakh Shah, the Gond ruler of Deogarh. To regain his throne from his brother, Bakht Buland went to Mughal capital of Delhi in 1686 and reluctantly accepted Islam, in order to get military assistance from the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
