NSW TrainLink Regional Train Project
The R sets are a class of bi-mode multiple units (EDMU) being built by as part of the Regional Rail Project to replace NSW TrainLink's ageing Xplorer and XPT fleets for long-distance services, as well as Sydney Trains' Endeavour fleet for diesel intercity services. History In the lead up to the 2015 state election, the Baird Government committed itself, if re-elected, to replacing the XPT fleet (19 power cars and 60 carriages). Having been returned to office, in October 2016, the government announced it was also considering replacing the Xplorer (23 carriages) and Endeavour (28 carriages) fleets. In August 2017, the government announced it had decided to proceed with the replacement of all three fleets. Eastwood Railway Station, Sydney
Eastwood railway station is located on the Main Northern line, serving the Sydney suburb of Eastwood. It is served by Sydney Trains' T9 Northern Line. History The station opened as Dundas on 17 September 1886 on the single track line. It was renamed Eastwood on 1 September 1887. The line through Eastwood was subsequently duplicated and has since been quadruplicated. In 2004, the platforms were extended towards Epping to allow 8-car Intercity trains to service the platforms. The station subway is accessible by non-paying members of the public, although this was separated from the station concourse by a fence.
