NBL1 West
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. The District Competition was introduced by the Basketball Western Australia, Western Australian Basketball Federation (WABF) as an 'elite' competition held on Friday nights, featuring eight Perth-based associations from the prominent districts of Perth, Swan Districts, Tangney/Willetton, Subiaco, East Perth, Cockburn, Stirling, and Claremont. Alison Schwagmeyer
Alison Renee Schwagmeyer (born July 31, 1990) is an American former professional basketball player. She played college basketball for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Quincy Hawks before playing in Germany, Australia, Romania, Spain, and Serbia. In Australia, she helped the Lakeside Lightning win the SBL championship in 2018 and earned three consecutive SBL Most Valuable Player awards. She also played in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) for the Perth Lynx, Sydney Uni Flames and UC Capitals. 2020 State Basketball League Season
The 2020 State Basketball League season was scheduled to be the 32nd season of the State Basketball League (SBL), but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the season was cancelled and later replaced by the amateur-based West Coast Classic. Pre-season The 2020 SBL Pre-Season Blitz was held at Bendat Basketball Centre over two weekends: the first for regional men's teams on Saturday 29 February and Sunday 1 March, and the second for metro men's and women's teams on Friday 6 March and Saturday 7 March. Goldfields Giants is an NBL1 West club based in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is owned by the Goldfields Basketball Association (GBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Giants play their home games at Niels Hansen Basketball Stadium. Club history SBL A men's basketball team known as the Goldfields Giants entered the State Basketball League (SBL) in 1990. The team made their debut at Niels Hansen Basketball Stadium on 9 March 1990, winning 76–70 over the Cockburn Cougars. The 2019 State Basketball League season was the 31st season of the State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 15 March and ended on Sunday 28 July. The finals began on Friday 2 August and concluded with the women's grand final on Friday 30 August and the men's grand final on Saturday 31 August. Pre-season The 2019 SBL Pre-Season Blitz was held at Warwick Stadium over Saturday 2 March and Sunday 3 March. Jarrad Prue
Jarrad Prue (born 11 February 1982) is an Australian former basketball player. He played 15 seasons with the Lakeside Lightning of the NBL1 West between 2003 and 2021 and won three List of State Basketball League champions, championships. He is the NBL1 West's all-time leading rebounder. Prue had a three-game stint with the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) in 2013, and in 2020 was appointed president of the Lakeside Lightning. Perth Redbacks is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of Perth Basketball Association (PBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in Perth's eastern suburbs and across the CBD. Ashleigh Isenbarger (née Grant; born 15 May 1997) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Perry Lakes Hawks of the NBL1 West. Early life Isenbarger represented Western Australia at the 2015 under-20 national championships, where WA earned a silver medal. Antonia "Toni" Farnworth (née Edmondson) (born 10 May 1987) is a New Zealand professional basketball player for the Ringwood Hawks of the NBL1 South.
