Mæl Church
Mæl Church ( no, Mæl kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tinn Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Miland. It is one of the churches for the Tinn parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1839 using plans drawn up by the architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 120 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1358, but the church was not built that year. The first Mæl Church was a wooden stave church that was likely built during the 12th century. By the early 19th century, the old stave church had fallen into disrepair and it was decided to replace the old church. Tinn is a Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Telemark in the Counties of Norway, county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional regions of Upper Telemark and Øst-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the List of cities in Norway, town of Rjukan. Stephan Tschudi-Madsen
Stephan Tschudi-Madsen (25 August 1923 - 11 October 2007) was a Norwegian art historian. Tschudi-Madsen was the first antiquarian at the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage from 1959 until 1978 and was Director-general between 1978–1991. He was the Advisory President of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) from 1981-1990 and ICOMOS Norway President 1978-1992. Early life Tschudi-Madsen was born in Bergen, Norway. He graduated in 1950 from the University of Oslo with a thesis in art history on Romantic architecture. In 1952-1953 he worked as a British Council scholar in London. A sacristy, also known as a vestry or preparation room, is a room in Christian churches for the keeping of vestments (such as the alb and chasuble) and other church furnishings, sacred vessels, and parish records. A church porch is a room-like structure at a church's main entrance. A porch protects from the weather to some extent. Some porches have an outer door, others a simple gate, and in some cases the outer opening is not closed in any way.
