Tinn is a municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the traditional districts of Aust-Telemark and Upper Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Rjukan. Some of the villages in Tinn include Atrå, Austbygde, Hovin, and Miland. The municipality is the 34th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Tinnsjå
Tinnsjå (also known as ''Tinnsjø'' or ''Tinnsjøen''; ) is one of the largest List of Norwegian Lakes, lakes in Norway measuring about . At a depth of it is the third List of lakes by depth, deepest lake in Norway and Europe. Tinnsjå is located in the municipalities of Tinn and Notodden in Telemark county. At its source in the west, the Måna river flows out of the lake Møsvatn and past the town of Rjukan into Tinnsjå. From the north, the river Mår (river), Mår flows from the lakes Mår (lake), Mår, Gøystavatn, and Kalhovdfjorden into Tinnsjå. Tinnsjå is part of the Skien watershed, and it drains via the Tinnelva river in the south, down to the lake Heddalsvatn. At the north end of the lake lie the villages of Atrå and Austbygdi, Telemark, Austbygdi. The village of Miland lies on the western shore of the lake. Rjukan
Rjukan () is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town in Tinn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The town is also the administrative centre of Tinn Municipality. The town is located in the Vestfjorddalen valley, between the lakes Møsvatn and Tinnsjå. The municipal council of Tinn declared List of towns and cities in Norway, town status for Rjukan in 1996. The town is located about to the west of the village of Miland and about to the northwest of the village of Tuddal (in Hjartdal Municipality). Austbygde (also known as Austbygdi or Tinn Austbygd) is a village in Tinn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located at the northern end of the lake Tinnsjå in the lower Tessungdal valley which runs to the north from the lake. Hovin, Telemark
Hovin is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1886 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now divided between Tinn Municipality and Notodden Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Hovin. The other main village in the municipality was Rudsgrendi on the opposite side of the lake Tinnsjå. History The municipality was established on 1 January 1886 when the municipality of Gransherad was divided into two: Hovin in the north (population: 885) and Gransherad in the south (population: 1,393). On 24 March 1903, an unpopulated part of Tinn Municipality was transferred to Hovin. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. Atrå is a village in Tinn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located at the northwestern end of the large lake Tinnsjå, about to the west of the village of Tinn Austbygd and about to the north of the village of Miland. Telemark
Telemark () is a Counties of Norway, county and a current electoral district in Norway. Telemark borders the counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Vestland, Rogaland and Agder. Aust-Telemark
Aust-Telemark () is a traditional district in Telemark county in Norway. The district comprises five municipalities: Hjartdal, Midt-Telemark, Nome, Notodden, and Tinn. The largest population centres in the region are the cities Notodden and Rjukan, of which Notodden is by far the largest with about 9,000 inhabitants. Hjartdal is scarcely populated. Historically, the district was made up of the three munincipalities/parishes of Hjartdal, Tinn, and Heddal, which were created in 1837 when the formannskapsdistrikt laws came into effect. In 1860, Gransherad municipality was created from portions of Tinn and Hjartdal. Hovin municipality was created by a split from Gransherad in 1886, and Notodden by a split from Heddal in 1913.
