Myropillia, Sumy Oblast
Myropillia (, ) is a village in Sumy Raion, Sumy Oblast, Ukraine. It is the administrative centre of Myropillia rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Its population is 30 (as of April 2025). History Myropillia was established around 1650 by immigrants from Volhynia. According to local legend, the settlement was named for a local river known as the Myrna Pilka, which dried up around the time of alleged 15th- and 16th-century settlement. Myropillia was granted the status of a city in 1670, and had within the of the Cossack Hetmanate. By the beginning of the 20th century, Myropillia had a population of nearly 20,000, but much of them either perished or left as a result of collectivisation, the Holodomor, and World War II. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Myropillia's location five kilometres from the Russia–Ukraine border has led to significant problems for the village. Holodomor
The Holodomor, also known as the Ukrainian Famine, was a mass famine in Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians. Collectivization in Ukraine during the period when it was part of the Soviet Union, and was officially called the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, was part of the policy of collectivization in the USSR and dekulakization.
