'' My Sunset-Land ROJAVA'' is the fifth solo album of the Kurdish Kamancheh player Shahriyar Jamshidi. This self-published project released in hard-copy and digital formats. ''My Sunset-Land ROJAVA'' is a full-length instrumental album for Kamancheh consists of nine tracks - two composed music and seven improvisation music, based on micro-tonal West Asian from Kurdish region. ''My Sunset-Land ROJAVA'' highlights the roles of women in revolutionary resistances in the western Kurdistan Rojava in recent years; the album is dedicated to women of Kurdistan who lost their life to free Rojava. Shahriyar Jamshidi
Shahriyar Jamshidi (, , ) (born 1971) is a Kurdish-Canadian kamānche player and composer. His focus is mainly on Kurdish music. Life and education Shahriyar was born in a Kurdish family in Kermanshah, the Kurdish city in the west of Iran. Due to limitations following the Iranian Revolution in 1978, he was not able to study music until age 17. He received private music lessons under the supervision of Mahmoud Merati for two years before studying music at Tehran University of Art. He continued his music studies under various teachers including Ahmad Pejman, Houshang Kamkar, Ardeshir Kamkar and Taghi Binesh. Kurdish Music
Kurdish music (, or ''مۆسیقای کوردی'') refers to music performed in the Kurdish languages and Zaza-Gorani languages. The earliest study of Kurdish music was initiated by the renowned Armenian priest and composer Komitas in 1903, when he published his work ''" Chansons kurdes transcrites par le pere Komitas"'' which consisted of twelve Kurdish melodies which he had collected. The Armenian Karapetê Xaço also preserved many traditional Kurdish melodies throughout the 20th century by recording and performing them. In 1909, Scholar Isya Joseph published the work "''Yezidi works''" in which he documented the musical practice of the Yazidis including the role of the musician-like qewal figures and the instruments used by the minority. Kamancheh
The kamancheh (also kamānche or kamāncha) (, , , ) is an Iranian bowed string instrument used in Persian, Azerbaijani, Armenian, Kurdish, Georgian, Turkmen, and Uzbek music with slight variations in the structure of the instrument. The kamancheh is related to the rebab which is the historical ancestor of the kamancheh and the bowed Byzantine lyra. The strings are played with a variable-tension bow. In 2017, the art of crafting and playing with Kamantcheh/Kamancha was included into the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists of Azerbaijan and Iran. Viyan Peyman
Viyan Peyman (originally Gülistan Tali Cinganlo) was an Iranian Kurdish singer and fighter with the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) who was killed fighting the Islamic State (IS) in Syria in 2015. Cinganlo was from the town of Kobani, in Syrian Kurdistan. Before the Syrian Civil War, she was a teacher. Cinganlo was a folk singer, and wrote her own music in traditional Kurdish folk style. She was known as a ''dengbêj'', a folk singer or storyteller, for her songs about the Kurdish resistance to the Islamic State in the Rojava-Islamist conflict, and her fellow fighters who had died. The Yazidi genocide was perpetrated by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria between 2014 and 2017. It was characterized by massacres, genocidal rape, and forced conversions to Islam. Zehra Doğan
Zehra Doğan (born 14 April 1989) is a Kurds, Kurdish artist and journalist and author from Diyarbakır, Turkey. In 2017, she was sentenced to 2 years, 9 months and 22 days in prison for "terrorist propaganda" because of her news coverage, social media posts, and sharing a painting of hers on social media. Her painting depicts the destruction of the Nusaybin, town in southeastern Turkey, after the clashes between state security forces and Kurdish PKK insurgents. After she finished her sentence, she was released from imprisonment from Tarsus, Mersin, Tarsus Prison on 24 February 2019.
