Viyan Peyman
Viyan Peyman (originally Gülistan Tali Cinganlo) was a Kurdish singer and fighter with the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) who was killed fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria in 2015. Cinganlo was from the town of Maku, in Iranian Kurdistan. Before the Syrian Civil War, she was a teacher. Cinganlo was a folk singer, and wrote her own music in traditional Kurdish folk style. She was known as a ''dengbêj'', a folk singer or storyteller, for her songs about the Kurdish resistance to the Islamic State in the Rojava-Islamist conflict, and her fellow fighters who had died. Cinganlo was injured twice, shot in her leg and stomach, but returned to continue fighting. People's Protection Units
The People's Defense Units (YPG), (YPG) ; ar, وحدات حماية الشعب, Waḥdāt Ḥimāyat aš-Šaʽb) also called People's Protection Units, is a mainly- Kurdish militia in Syria and the primary component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The YPG mostly consists of ethnic Kurds, but also includes Arabs and foreign volunteers; it is closely allied to the Syriac Military Council, an Assyrian militia. The YPG was formed in 2011. It expanded rapidly in the Syrian Civil War and came to predominate over other armed Syrian Kurdish groups. A sister militia, the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), fights alongside them. Kobanî (, , also rendered , ar, كُوبَانِي, Kūbānī) ( Kurdish: Kobanî/ کۆبانی) officially Ayn al-Arab ( ar, عَيْن الْعَرَب, ʿAyn al-ʿArab ), is a Kurdish-majority city in northern Syria, lying immediately south of the Syria–Turkey border. Shahriyar Jamshidi
Shahriyar Jamshidi ( ku, Şehriyar Cemşîdî, fa, شهریار جمشیدی, ckb, شەهریار جەمشیدی) (born 1971) is a Kurdish-Canadian Kamancheh player and composer. His focus is mainly on Kurdish music. Life and education Shahriyar was born in a Kurdish family in Kermanshah, the Kurdish city in the west of Iran. Due to limitations following the Iranian Revolution in 1978, he was not able to study music until age 17. He received private music lessons under the supervision of Mahmoud Merati for two years before studying music at Tehran University of Art. In Tehran, he continued his music studies under various teachers including Ahmad Pejman, Houshang Kamkar, Ardeshir Kamkar and Taghi Binesh.
